:DOk so I am a new guy to the world of FJ's. I have always had a love for FJ 40's and I have recently purchased a 1973 40 that has a new Chevy 350 and 4 speed automatic. I love it but I need some help from all of you guys that have been around for a while.

The areas that I need help is::steer:
1. It has a small gas tank 10g under the front seat. It is new but it is to small. I have heard that there are tanks that go under both seats and are connected. Has any one heard of this? I would have to move some things to add a tank in the rear so if I can find another option that would be great.

2. The body is a 73 but the hard top is 76. The top has the ambulance doors that I love but the orignal body had the half doors. I would like to see if I can make the ambulance doors work with the top on and the half doors with the top off. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Any insight would be great! Thanks.:D

your fuel tank should be around 15 gallons (factory) yes there is a tank that goes under both seats its made by man-a-fre and here is a link MAF FJ40 long range 28 gal tank and you should be able to make the ambulance doors work. try the search function above to find stuff.

oh and welcome to Mud :flipoff2: (official welcome)

Welcome.

21 Gallon <--- this is a link

Looks like the smaller tank from MAF is no longer... :meh:

Downey has a similar tank <---- this is a link

I installed the 28 gallon tank into a 1962 FST 40 series we built a few years back. With the RamJet, you will want the fuel. ;)

It is a great tank; I wish I could swing one for my junk.

Welcome to Mud! Should be some threads here on Mud in regards to aux fuel tanks. Below is a rather spendy option. Your stock tank should be bigger than 10 gallons.

MAF FJ40 long range 28 gal tank

As for the tops. I know there a threads about people putting ambi doors on earlier models. Start using the search option. Also the faq section is full of great info for someone starting out.

Enjoy and good luck, Alan.

yes but

yes all in the FAQs but now I got a chance to see that nice red rig again----that cage seat mount and long range tank are sweeeet indeed
:D

Is your current fuel tank metal, or plastic? I've heard of the Cool Cruisers plastic tanks imploding slightly and giving some pretty poor fuel-carrying capacity. Under 10 gallons seems a little small even for one of their tanks though.

Don't forget the Confer rear tank option.

You can get the rear tank straight from the manufacturer.

My tank was replaced with a cheesy plastic tank, two problems a. I can get about 13gal of gas :bang:and b. the tank is missing the raised lip for the sending unit, so in order to keep it from leaking you need to grind the corresponding lip off the sending unit or only fill the tank half way.:bang:

Downey has a aux tank that fits under the rear for about $750-$800.

:flipoff2:Cheers!
