Hi all,
Just took the plunge with a new 40. My 3rd FJ40, but first in 26 years! I’m super excited. And so happy places and forums and fellowship like this now exist! Please help me identify or explain the purpose of this “Aux 12v/24v” switch. Here’s 3 pics of the dash. And the “red light” next to it as seen in the pics. The other pics show the rest of the added switches so you have full context. Sorry for the probably dumb question and thanks for your consideration. :-)

Is it a diesel engine by chance? It helps to know year, model, market.
It’s 1974 Fj40 with original F1 inline 6. Made in Japan for USA market. It has a warm winch added aftermarket as well, just FYI. Thanks for the quick reply.

Ok. So you need to follow the wires in/out of that switch. Does it have 2 batteries 12 V or maybe 1 24V, if its just one 12V maybe there is a buck converter to step 12 up to 24 for some use - HAM or aircraft radio/nav system.

Got any local car people friends that could swing by and have a look - it will likely be much faster.

Thanks so much. I'll follow the wires...duh! Never occurred to me haha. I appreciate your help, a lot.

Your rig appears to be a very very nice little setup! Congratulations. I would consider that a 1973 since the build date is October 1973.
I get that late year builds are sometime labelled as the next year model though. For future reference you may need to
be very specific about your build date versus your model year since parts may be revised across that window.

Your rig appears to have a 12/24v series/parallel switch installed, based on this pic from your vehicle listing. View attachment 3782764
Thanks for your help. I didn’t pay $29k for it. I paid 30% less of this price. I’m really excited, the more things I find good and bad. Thanks for all your help all
