My Experience

Ordered from Eshan:

Full Canvas Top
Bimini Canvas Top
Bow set
Right-Hand Drive Windshield frame

What I got:

Full Canvas Top - primer paint drops (some with fingerprints in them) and, what looks like grease smears in several (and obvious) places. (At least) two windows were ruined by the zippers pressing on them during shipment. The windows I could probably get replaced locally (more $), but I have no way of getting paint off of the top without ruining it. One of the larger paint drops is on top of the canvas in the bag right by where my name was written on the bag - no way it was not seen before shipment - it was the first thing I saw when I opened the box. Frankly, I stopped unfolding the top about 2/3's of the way, I was too disappointed to go on.

Bimini Canvas Top - never opened it after I saw the paint on the full top.

Bow set - never opened, but I think I'll take a look today.

Right-Hand Drive Windshield frame - didn't get that - I got a left-hand drive windshield frame. Needless to say, this was useless to me (also, bent during shipment - can be fixed, but more $).

Contacted Eshan about the Full Canvas Top and the Windshield frame - never heard back from him about either.

I was so upset and turned off by the whole process, and by what I got for the money I paid, I stopped work on my cruiser for a year.

My lesson, buy locally, so if there is something wrong it can be fixed or returned, which is something I now ask, even on special orders - if it can't be fixed or returned I don't buy it.

Eshan may be a great guy, but he, and his business is half a world away.

Dibs on the bows. They've probably got rust and grease all over them anyway. Couldn't be worth more than $75-80

geeezzz hope you are kidding... for that price I will take it all... :D

I have been corresponding with Ehsan and it seems like he is making a big commitment to start manufacturing tops in a more timely manner. He has hired some new workers and has outsourced his shipping to ensure that things ship faster than before.

I am considering bringing in an order of tops and misc. parts like stamped bezels and tailgates and selling them for a profit. I want to be upfront about that. One major concern I have is that people will be upset about this. If I do this, I will be laying out a lot of cash and assuming all the risks as well as creating overhead for things like storage and shipping supplies. I don't want to gouge anybody. If you order a top on your own through Ehsan, the cost is about $1,325 to your door and it takes several months. I would sell them for about $1,200+ shipping cost to your door. There would be no international shipping wait, just the time it takes to ship from Boston to wherever you are.

What do people think about this???

I'll take a set...! I have no issues with your idea, and I would be paying for peace of mind, as you would be able to look over the product and ensure quality, before shipment.

Great idea, I hope others will agree.

do it dude!!! what would the cost be for just the canvas? thanks for even considering this Alex!!! we need someone that is trustworthy and going to make a real commitment to do this..

Would this cost also include the bows? Is he doing anything about quality control?

There will be better quality control. He is going to use YKK zippers and has a higher quality thread made in Germany. If something was wrong with your top, you'd send it back to me, not Ehsan. I would send you new one and I would then deal with Ehsan. I would also be checking for quality issues before I send them out. Like I said, I am taking all the risk here.

Yes, that is for a top and bows.

Well that is good news. Truth is I have been wanting one of these tops for a while but have been very discouraged on reviews. Will the canvas bee the same in thickness?

i can personally vouch for alex as well - great guy. loves cruisers.. and I saw first hand what he had to do for all of us during the last group buy. AND he didn't make a profit.

I say do it if you can stand the risk... would love to have a back up....

You'll have demand for the tops, but if Ehsan will still take group buys you may have a problem at that price point.

Your main problem will be demanding customers who expect perfection and cannot comprehend that what they are getting is inescapably a hand made product that will never be perfect, regardless of QC improvements. These are the people who drive a low-volume businesses out of business.

SB40: Did you ever get my extra khaki canvas?

I've always been interested in a top from Ehsan and if I was purchasing it from you knowing what the expected wait on one would be then I'd be way more inclined to pull the trigger. An extra $ here or there would be worth the peace of mind like others have mentioned.

I like the idea

Go for it Alex....

Be a lot easier and closer to go over and kick your ass rather than make a trip to Pakistan.........:hhmm:

Alex would make a great importer for the tops. Stand up guy who went out of his way for all of us on the last group order. I would do business with him again in a heart beat and will if this takes off.
