I vote Option B for a couple reasons: I prefer the simplicity route because it's obviously cheaper, and plus I'm not a a huge fan of the fade on/off feature.

Let me clarify that the fade on/off feature only happens when you open/close the doors. It would be an immediate on/off when activated by a switch. Does that change anything for you?

I’m still in for just a standard set of non switchable lights for my LX. Thanks Rami!

They're in stock on the website!

Oh I understand now my apologizes. But that changes nothing for me, fade on/off or immediate off after closing the doors isn't a big deal to me. If it's cheaper and simpler for both the producer and consumer then I say go the easier and cleaner route. But maybe those who are dead-set on the fading think otherwise. I'm just looking for something that will turn on when I open the doors, off when I close them, and back on with the push of a button.

Option B.

So do I understand correctly that using the kit the lights will continue to fade with door open/close (as is OEM on the LX), but will not fade when manually switched on/off, (unless you go with the more expensive relay)?

Not exactly.

It's tricky because Toyota uses ground switching/PWM to make the light dim on/off with the doors.

With the rock kit, it's complex. If I use the simple system, you'll lose all fading; doors and with the manual switch.

With the more complex/expensive system, you can maintain the fading on/off with the doors, but it wont fade with the manual switch.

I'm leaning towards the simple system because I don't think people will like the looks of the complex one. It definitely has a home brew feel/look because nobody specificlly makes a solid state relay that works well for this application

I'm all for simplicity, I just want them to turn on/off with the doors or a switch but I'm not too concerned with how they do it.

Any updates on these?

Any updates on these?

I found another relay that seems promising to make the dim work and still be cheap/less clunky. I think it's due to arrive late this coming week. Once I figure out if it's going to work or not, I'll be ready to send an initial kit out to a Land Cruiser owner at a slightly discounted price to make sure everything goes smoothly. Want to be my guinea pig?

Check your PMs:)

Beat me to it!

I can't wait till they come available for the Toyota!

Very soon. It's all working, I'm just ironing out some details and making sure the first shot is the right one. I could have started throwing kits together a few months ago, but I've found better and better components so waiting till I found the very best possible was crucial. I didn't want the early adopters to feel they got ripped off if I found a better system a few months later.

Hope these things sell like hot cakes!

Any more updates on these??

The prototype is done! I was able to retain the fade on/off (if your truck dome has that feature) and allow it to be switchable. Im finishing up my workshop now and will start knocking these out soon. Once I get one set built, I'll shoot you a PM and I want to send it to you first to try before I announce. Stay posted.

Current Owl Expo workshop progress that's delaying all other progress.

will these work on a 2001 LX? if so i would consider taking a set - if you're still making them

They will! They will be back on sale in the coming weeks as a version 2. Stay tunned for a new thread.

Excellent I’ll be on the lookout! No rush I was just curious about the status of these. Oh and sweet shop with some nice tool boxes, I’m jealous:)

Looking good! Are you selling private shares of Owl Expo before you go public?? DM for VC opportunities ;).

For anybody looking. I have my pair that I purchased a little while ago that I am selling. Decided not to install them on my truck.

These are with the crimp connectors.

FS Listing.
