Anyone going to the EXPO ? Kirk and I are taking 3-4 days to get there and then 10 days-2 wks afterwards.

All is good . We are both retired for some time now. We've been doing trips a couple times a year. We've done Camino del Diablo (article in Toyota Trails) and finished a long Big bend trip(article pending)

Sorry, Mark, but I betcha Jon didn't have a 20-year full retirement option. Those are mostly reserved for fire, police, military, etc. Not all government employees, even botanists. Federal service is 30 years, and with that, pension is a whopping 30% of the average of your 3 highest earning years (unless you started before 1987-ish). Mediocre pay, mediocre retirement. Save, save, save.

Normal retirement with the City is 25 years. But at 20 years and 60yo you can leave ... with reduced benefits.

Federal employees hired after Jan 1, 1984 are under FERs . While a FERs pension is less than the old civil service pension that difference is made up by contributing to the Thrift Savings Plan which , upon retirement , supplement the pension. Manged correctly , a FERs employee will make more than the employee did working. Law enforcement can retire at any age after 25 years, 20 years at age 50. All benefits, pension, FERs, and Social Security are available.
