One of my customers put this on his 62

Towing the 62 to the exhaust shop at 7:30 this morning, tow rig just shuts down, tach drops to 0 rest of electric fine, including cranking. Coast to a stop half on half off road, edge of the ditch. Wiggled a bunch of connections under hood and fuse box under hood. Eventually starts.

On the way home, blow a tire on the trailer and takes out the fender with it.

If you have a dual axle trailer and don't have one of these, works wonders.

Oh yeah, the lock on the spare was frozen, dumped some motor oil in it and after fussing with it for 15 minutes it finally opened.

Almost all campers have plastic fender liners. When this type of blow-out happens under a camper it is often a total loss due to the cost of making repairs to the interior. Many times in a camper there are bathrooms, plumbing, furnaces, gas and electrical lines located just over the wheels (makes sense that the heaviest items would be located over the axles). Being a vintage Airstream owner, I am aware of the damage that blow-outs can cause. This type of incident used to be extremely rare back when 8-ply bias trailer tires were readily available in consumer sizes (15"-16"). I rode the last set of bias tires on my Airstream until the threads were about to pop through and was forced to go with new radials due to the poor selection of bias trailer tires. The vintage Airstream guys recommend changing radial camper tires every 2-3 years whether they need it or not. It's an expensive proposition. To make matters worse, apparently China has cornered the market on radial trailer tires. It is difficult to find good quality American-made trailer-rated radials. I foresee a lot more of this type of blowout thing happening in the years to come.

I unloaded the 62, parked the trailer, did a few things in the shop and called it a day. Figured I'd not push my luck by doing something stupid like use the lift Doing paper work instead, I foresee paper cuts...

Fender did not hit the 62, it was ripped off the frame and I just rolled it up to get a better look at tire.

I hear ya Dave. I looked all over for US made trailer tires, one guy said he may be able to find some. These are China made with less than 5K on them, appear fine. Kinda scary and I am going to be looking for new tires. The 2-3 years sounds about right for the set on the trailer now.

This country needs to get it's collective head out of it's a%$ and figure out we need to start making things here again. We also have to find a way to compete. Upping import taxes to countries we have trade imbalance with comes to mind. Anyway.................
