OME BP51 gimmicky?

Had the BP51's switched to Icons. Icons are more than a notch above in control of the truck, they are better on high speed corrugated trails.
Bp's are good, Icons are that much better, feels like the truck can tackle any terrain at any speed with composure, control, and overall shock absorbing capacities, specially on things like a big bump, jumps, etc...
They are also easier to set as the compression setting is done on the reservoir.
But they feel more like a German car suspension than a floaty cadillac.

Could the difference you are describing be from the increased piston size 2.0" vs 2.5"? How much difference was there on the street only?

On the street the icons are definitely more plush and have a better control.
I do not know if it’s because of the size difference or the valuing, but it’s better.

I have used an ICON 2.5 - stage 2 setup on the street for over 20,000 miles now. 500 mile trips on Interstate 80, frequent trips to Manhattan and Philadelphia, and driving in the suburbs - this setup has done it all street wise. It feels like my Landcruiser had its setup done by Porsche - great control and ride quality as well as a sporty edge to cornering.

The suspension never feels out of its depth on the street and not even a Camry Hybrid taxi can beat me around city streets - I don't have to slow down for pavement irregularities.

If I didn't find this suspension I would have sold my Landcruiser by now.

The only negative? It is so good at ironing out the road, that I just don't pay attention to potholes I should be mindful of when I use the same road in my BMW :D

Twin turbos and 800 hp will be more useful to you than some 3.0" King Shocks will. The 2.5" will be more than enough... and King will build them, or allow the dealer to, however you want. If someone is going to charge me top dollar, they are going to give me, or try like heck, to deliver what I want. Not many of the shock companies do it.

Best Icon endorsement I have read yet. If you were to do it again would you bother with CDCs?

I have a feeling I will only set it once and never bother with it again.

For what you need it for, it would definitely be set it and forget it. I have Icons and I will change the CDCs based on my offroad or onroad driving, but if I was just sticking to one, I wouldn't really need to adjust them.

Does it change where you go more aggressive in summer time and more cushy in winter time.

It can. If I'm riding freeway for 6 hours I can make it really cushy. If I'm driving in tight mountain passes that are nothing but sharp curves for a few hours I definitely will set it aggressive so I don't have as much body roll. Or if I'm on washboard dirt roads for a few hours turn it cushy again.

For the most part I just leave it near the middle and don't mess with it, but I can see a majority of people setting it to halfway and then never touching it again.

What numbers do you change it from? Like 4-6 or more extreme 1-10?

Usually 8 on the high end and 2 on the low end unless I'm on washboard dirt roads, which get a setting of 1. Otherwise 4 for around town.
Do your hands get dirty or is it really simple to reach and change?

Icon is backed up another few weeks on the rear shocks. Is it this normal for them? 2 months on back order?

They are killing me!

It took me about 7 months to get my TJM front bumper... :)

TJM is renknowned for their super late shipping. 7 months is almost average for their scale.

relax - look at this way - you get to basically skip the nasty winter sludge on your new setup for the beginning of 2018

Good point! Although I was heading to St. Louis in a month visiting my friend's farm and would have loved testing it out over there.

I have been reading on other websites the differences between King, Icon and Fox. I came across an interesting quote comparing Icons to BMW, King to Mercedes, and Fox to Audi. Not sure how applicable people feel about this?

The way people describe Kings it sounded like it was like riding on clouds which makes me think of AHC. I can't stand AHC.

So Icons finally arrived today. I am thinking to order new rear springs as 175k miles is alot of miles. I hope my suspension will last 200k more miles with proper maintenance.

Thanks! I currently opted not change rear springs. Mechanic will check when he does rear shocks. Tomorrow he is going to do fronts. I thought I would check to see the feel of the fronts before doing rears.

@Markuson Do you have the KDSS guide I should give to my mechanic regarding KDSS valves. I know he has some experience with KDSS but still want to give it to him anyway.

Also, I need to figure out how many turns to turn the coilovers so it goes to stock height.
