The third member made its way back to me about a week ago, waiting for me to get to the install. Zuk took about a million high resolution pictures of the whole process and seemed impressed by the quality of the unit and its operation. Really looking forward to getting it back in!Nice! You weren't messing around!I'm planning on sending mine to Zuk the 2nd week in February...actually just got my garaged squared away today in anticipation of the mess that's about to begin. I think you're gonna love having the Harrops F/R!
Thanks Eric. Also worth noting: Although I did not source my E-Locker from @wardharris, he and @orangefj45 stock these lockers stateside!
Cheers,
Eric
Bump.
As I mentioned before, I'll be doing a full write-up of my own Harrop experience that will cover purchasing, uninstall of the third, reinstall, and off-road impressions.
Until then, Zuk just posted 103 very detailed pictures of my Harrop E-Locker install on his site: Toyota gear install
I thought it would be great to share that now in case I'm slow in getting to my write-up. And while I'm here, a few random thoughts:
1) @ewillis - hope you've already sent your third off to Ken (AKA "Zuk" but sadly that is not his real name).
2) Working with Zuk was a dream. He's a real nice guy and his communication, professionalism and knowledge are beyond reproach. Great turn-a-round time as well.
3) Someone asked earlier what Zuk charges for something like this. I don't want to put a number here since costs change and someone may find this thread 5 years from now and get angry that they're not getting the XXX price that Eric got. Suffice it to say, his prices are extremely reasonable. Too cheap IMO. And I'm generally a cheapskate so that's saying something.
Eric
Yes his name is Ken, but Zuk has got that Pulp Fiction coolness vibe to it! My rig is ready to go on the jack stands and the 3rd will be sent around the 2nd week of February. With regard to pricing and more importantly workmanship, it's VERY evident that Ken is the one you want to ship your parts to if you want it done right for a very reasonable price. So reasonable in fact, I'm likely shipping my rear 3rd to him too so he can install my Lokka...I don't really feel like messing with it!
Speaking of quality installs, we really need to get @NLXTACY on board (he's the man for wiring) with fabricating the electrical components to connect a pigtail to a genuine 80 locker dial. The supplied Harrop switches are crap IMO. Time to put down the lock box for a minute and drive your arse to Upland Joey!
I'm so excited to hear that more and more 80s are installing these Harrops...I think they are the best option around for traction. Feel free to post any 80 related Harrop experiences to this thread!
I'm game. Just need info about connectors and wire requirements.
Joey, I'll try to send you the info. Personally, I kind of like the Harrop switches (they're just standard Contura switches), but mostly I like that they will indicate that the locker is engaged via the light on the switch which the Toyota rotary dial won't do...unless you do the extra work of rigging the dashboard locker lights to go on. I'd prefer that, actually, but I just have way too many projects to make that a priority.
Yeah, I checked out those threads and it didn't seem all that bad...but you do need to pull the gauge cluster out as memory serves to put the bulbs in...along with a couple of other things. Its not too much effort, if memory serves, to get the dash lights to turn on using the OEM dial. I have the EWD along with a few older threads bookmarked that deal with exactly that issue.

yes, just make sure that its not going to roll anywhere when you take off the drive shaft. Here we go...time to get the 3rd off and packed up to be Zuk-ified! Question though to those in the know. I've never taken the 3rd off before and it appears from the FSM that the procedure is axles out first followed by prop shaft then 3rd housing. Truth be told, I'm a bit leery having my face underneath the axle banging around trying to get the propeller shaft out while the wheels are off. Can't I remove the prop shaft first, then take axles out followed by 3rd?

eWillis, awesome. Hoping to do the same. What PM's are you going to do "while your in there"?
No PMs planned as I just rebuilt the axle a few months ago. I have all new bearings that were just installed and will likely install new axle seals just to be on the safe side...I'm really getting tired of pulling this axle apart. My neighbors must think Land Cruisers are biggest POS on the planet due to mine always being on jack stands! I live in one of those neighborhoods where even changing the oil in your driveway is against the rules...annoying!
I have a relative that owns Colorado Toyota Specialists. They do good differential work. He put one on one of his own trucks and whatever Harrop source he has told him he can get him more if the need arises. He seems to be happy with it. I thought he talked to some dude in Australia about it, but I don't know if he has installed any on customers trucks yet, Harrop isn't really that well known yet. People can call the shop if they want one installed at 303-838-4772. Hopefully Im not wrong about all this as that conversation I had with him was some time ago. Personally I really like my air locker, and its staying where it is as I don't want to create any more work for myself. But I do wish it disengaged faster. I haven't asked him how fast the Harrop engages and disengages compared to the ARB. The ARB not disengaging real fast can be a pain sometimes. But my ARB is pretty old, so that may have something to do with it.
So, question: if I am to add on-board air regardless, any reason to pick these over ARBs?
