I did an installation into the front of an 80 in October for a workmate, and so far all is working great. The only problem encountered was that one of his kids accidently switched on the e-locker, and he soon found that he had some extremely heavy steering when going around the first corner. Was on the bitumen BTW.

Out of this we have decided to install a "deadman" switch on the dash. The ARB airl locker already have a deadman of sorts due to the compressor kicking in and letting you know that you will soon have a lot more traction. The eatons are completely silent.

His switches for lockers etc are on the front of the center console and of the carling variety, so was thinking of something like this in the dash

This is exactly what a friend of mine did with the elocker he installed in the back of his pickup. Works great

Dang...It's not even installed and I already love this thing! The machine work is great and it has a substantial "heft" to it. I realize it's a solid hunk of steel, but I'm quite shocked at how heavy and robust this locker is!

They are sweet. My 73 just got out of the shop with its new Harrop. No drama, just works as advertised.

We used an OEM two locker switch.

Indicator light for locker is wired into lamp previously used for pre heat indicator. Check engine light uses lamp which was formerly the filter screen indicator on the diesel which we replaced with a gasser.

Sweet! Did you put the Harrop in the front, rear, or both?

Whelp...I did it! After a couple years of trying to figure out the best configuration for adding traction to my unlocked 1994 80 series, I settled with a Lokka in the rear and just ordered a Harrop/Eaton for the front. I'm unofficially calling this setup "downunda locked" because I had to source both units from OZ.

I tried a couple of times (maybe 3) to score a locked front axle off various vehicles, but for a variety of reasons could not make it happen. Then I started to think "why the hell am I swapping out a perfectly good low mileage and well cared for axle for something of unknown condition"?

This led me to the ARB vs TJM vs Eaton debate and the simplicity (no air line...no compressors) and stellar reviews of the Eaton left me with only one choice and one problem.

The problem was that although I contacted every stateside distributor I could find, their prices were so high...I couldn't justify them over the TJM/ARB, but still didn't want a friggin air compressor in my rig. In short, I contacted a friend from AUS who scooped one up for me and with the US to AUD currency conversion in my favor, it ended up being roughly the same price as the air lockers.

Here's a pic of the rear Lokka and will be adding the Eaton upon arrival. It will then promptly be heading to ZUK for installation! Hopefully @NLXTACY is down to start making some of his fancy connectors for the Eaton/Harrop units!

3X locked 80...here I come!

Thanks I am looking at going with the same set up you are going with.

Seems as though with this type of switch it would be extremely easy to bump and switch off the locker. I think it's more detrimental to accidentally turn it off when needed then on when it's not. Also in situations where the locker is needed then the terrain is certainly going to be rougher and bouncing around thus increasing the chance of accidentally switching it off. These types of switches don't take much movement before the spring loaded cover snaps shut and switches off. Personally if the kids are accidentally switching the locker on then the switch should be moved to a different location.

I'm jealous! I still need to take my 3rd off and ship it to him...trying to wait out the El Nino for a bit!

I put a Harrop E-Locker in the front of my 100 just in time for Turf-n-Surf at Pismo in early November.

Super happy with the simplicity of the install and ease of operation.

The next issue of Toyota Owner Magazine should have a write up about it.

Here is the article about Georg's ELocker install in the current issue of 4WD TO. Note that the pricing shown in the article is off last year's price list. Prices are a little lower for 2016 :)
