Have you purchased a mix to test against a cruiser known to still have original paint?

Have you gone to a paint shop to see it their Dupot book had sample card for you to check against a top or bezel?

How did your code match up side by side with a clean older top? Any pictures?

Have done none of the above...both of my tops I shot in 031...or was it 033.....it's on the can :meh:

Well, along with installing some fresh windshield glass Treeroot brought over the holy grail of Toyota paint codes. We sifted though all the old colors Compared with some different paint spots on the cruiser. under the window frame was some really clean non faded paint but in the end a chip from the glove box led us to believe this is the correct color. 1276 Sundune white. I believe mine was built in dec 63 like el jefe's and it stamped with a 4 on the frame for 1964 model. Tan cruiser.

Hey Wes, did you ever try getting a sample or small spray can mixed at your local NAPA or something?

In my relentless search i to find a colour for my 1977 FJ55 I have found that Paint code 254 Relates to Cygnus White and four colours for T653!!
1976 Olive 45228
1975-76 Olive 44286
1977 Olive 45321
1975 Cicilian green CJ35
Can anyone tell me which one is the darkest and ill go with that?

To test colors, I've gone to my local paint shop and had small amounts of each mixed and then I sprayed each one out and compared. A good auto paint shop might also be able to give you the formulas and give you some clue as to which one has more or less of each pigment. Not a sure fire way but might give some clue other than spraying a test with each. If some one on mud has access to the formulas then they might be able to help.

My local paint shop told me it was a no no to mix less than 1 quart of paint by the EPA. Quarts of paint can get expensive.

However with a little green coercion I was able to mix 1/2 pint for $10.

Interesting, I've had no problems getting a local auto paint supplier to mix small amounts of paint. I guess it might depend on local EPA regulations.

My paint shop let me go through the big book of color samples. Took a while to find the codes I was looking for, but being able to place my sample behind the book's "samples viewing window" was a big help in narrowing down what I was looking for...and save me a few bucks to boot

It's Capri Blue, albeit faded. We have a 1971 with same color.

Turns out the Cicilian is a different companys name for the Olive but same mix, as is those different Dupont internal numbers, How ever there is also a Bronze olive listed under 653.
I actually have already got some cans made up ($30) a pop.
the picture from left is Olive 653 and Bronze Olive 653.
Turns out bronze Olive had another 2 paint codes for the same mix, 262 and 276. She couldnt tell me what year used what code though but bronze olive was used from 1974 to 81 and olive from 1974 to 80.
Olive only has 2 codes, 653 and 254 so it has to be that one. The primer shade should be 7 out of 8 so its a darker primer.

Whew, I just spent an hour going through this topic and making updates to my FJ40 and FJ55 charts. I try to get them as accurate as possible, but as you know the information is so spotty that it is very difficult. If anyone spots an error then you can post it in the topic link below and I will make the correction. Thanks!

262 Could be Bronze Olive or Summer Orange and Cygnus

Update:
I thought i could clear up the Bronze Olive a bit more so i chatted to Dupont again and they couldnt give me another colour for 276 but it definently looks like a two tone number, however 262 was also used for summer Orange Different Mix) with Cygnus white not sure of the year but that could definently be a trick for young players.

Well here it is!

Finally went with Olive and Cygnus not Bronze Olive although it does seem a little greener than it used to but its done now.

This thread's got me thinking I need to go from white to olive - despite not having A/C in southern California. . .

You have to marvel at whatever process they use to name colors. "Breathe Green" sounds like what you get from not brushing your teeth for a week.

On the subject of paint codes, is there a code for the grey of the stock wheels and the silver of the stock bumpers?

Hi, i gave my 83' bj42 yesterday to the "paint-man". It will be freeborn 309, for the roof and bezel, i told him to paint it white 33 because there is the only white on the chart for 1983. Is that correct for the roof? Is white 33 a bright white or either like a kind of light beige?
Does anyone have this color combination? Does anyone have white 33 roof? If yes, please post pics

:)Thanks
Gilles
