I'm running Slee 6" coils.

Thx man! appreciate it!

I decided a long time ago that traveling was not my thing in the 80, too much on gas. So I decided to go away from the expedition part of wheeling and just go the more hardcore route. I am happy with that decision, the 80 is just fat.

No disrespect intended, but I don't understand this statement at all. I mean, I can appreciate the love for rock-crawling, but if you want to do that hardcore, there are much better choices than an 80. You admit it yourself when you say "the 80 is just fat". IMHO, the 80 is much more suited to do traditional expedition type traveling than hardcore rock-crawling.

I know, I know - an 80 on 37s or 40s turns a lot of heads, though.:grinpimp:

Size doesn't matter. I've see plenty of full size rigs on the rocks. Plus once you add crawler gears to an 80 it is a totally different animal.

Wrench, you really need a build thread ;)

It's to late in the game for that. I've owned it for 10 years so far.

I can finally play in this thread. :grinpimp:

These are the military baja style MT's, on Treadwright recentered rims.

Yet another way the government has completely screwed us and made us think we love it.

I'm of the opinion military tires should stay on military vehicles. they fuggin' suck offroad or on the interstate comparatively.

Not sure why they'd suck off road or on the interstate. Military vehicles have to do both, and do both regularly, they have no problems so why should we? These might not be very good on light vehicles, but on our heavy pigs (which are pretty close in weight to a lightly armored hummer) it's not that different.

These flex actually quite nicely at low PSI, plus dual beadlocks means I can run at 0 PSI without worrying about the bead. Seems like it's just about ideal for off road, no?

As for interstate, haven't had these past about 50 MPH due to one of them being out of round. No vibes at all (not even from the out of round one), and they run very smooth. No weights or balancing on them either. Once I get the out of round one taken care of (might even just need to be rotated 180* on the rim), I don't think I'll have any trouble running up to about 70 MPH, which is as fast as I go anyway.

These are surprisingly quiet (no louder than the AT's I took off), and while heavy they're really not that bad. Slower starts and stops, but I never expected it to drive like a race car anyway.

The part that kinda bugs me is that the military is overpaying for these no doubt. Since they're pulling them off around 80-90 percent tread life left, the amount of money that they lose on each tire is astronomical. Trail Worthy Fab sells them for around $100, so the government could easily be losing $400 per tire. Guess that's a good deal for when I want to buy tires, but a poor deal in general, since my taxes are paying for hundreds of thousands of tires.

woah! not sure how much playing you are gonna be doing with those fenders Ebag333! those are gonna get chewed by those bajas.........get out yer sawzall man....:D

Yeah. Had to use my 1 lb micro-adjuster on the edge of the wheel well to eliminate rubbing when turning. For normal driving, no issues. For wheeling...well, might have to do some adjustments.

Already planning on upping my 1" body lift to 2" which will help some. I think that will at least get the flares out of harms way.

And I do have more room than it looks. The angle makes it seem less.

I figured that much on angle of foto. So whats your take on the balance on these Bajas? u think it will balance out ? i have a slight vibe on my mtOz at 55 but goes away and cruises at 65. Those bajas look like they are very firm on the outer edge (large lugs with no voids). Could be a contender for some siping to make those outer lugs bite.

Balance wise, I get no vibes. I have an e-mail in to TWF about the out of round one, we'll see what happens there.

These are very quiet, no doubt due to those large lugs and no voids. Rim says 30 PSi max, so the lower pressure does let the tire flex some.

I've never been a huge fan of siping. While it can let the tire flex better, it can also let it chunk worse. Some of the worst chunking I've seen has been on siped tires, maybe they just over did the siping tho.

Today marks the start of rainy season here, so I'll quickly figure out how these handle in wet conditions.

The military drives in wet conditions, so they'll rock :grinpimp:

Really, I thought they couldn't handle wet conditions and that's why we keep our wars to desert regions?

If you rotate the tire on the rim won't it just be flat on the top then?

WhooHoo! I get to play in this thread too. Just mounted the 38.7 Michelin XL 11.00R16 tires to the Pig. Thanks to Rufino for taking the pictures of the rig in action for a test run at BullFrog and Cake Walk. A few body trimming and some new bump stops should solve the rubbing issues. Overall the tires did well and rides good on the highway.
