Since the video never shows the unit turned on, let alone working, I'm very skeptical.

If it doesn't you're left looking for Mr. Wun-Hung-Lo among the 1.386 billion Chinese I'm sure you will find him.

So the metal-studded MAXTRAX are finally available... A mere **$500.00** per pair...!!!
😳
Holy cannoli...

On the other hand...the regular units are $300.

And only 1.5 years late! I recently got a second pair of MKII Maxtrax with a coupon for $260 shipped, and I would rather have 2 sets of the MKIIs than 1 set of the Extreme. I understand them being expensive, but $500 does seem a bit too rich when you can get a nice winch for the cost of 2 pairs.

I need 2 pair. Where did you find the coupon?

Metal studs begs the question about potential tire issues or projectile boards?

According to the Maxtrax rep, she said that the extremes are geared towards the more experienced offroad driver where they won't spin tires unnecessarily on the metal cleats after I asked her about popping a tire. Good luck out there. The original ones have been so successful though. Hard to warrant the price point on the new ones.

Great now the most likely to abuse them will seek same as a badge of knowledge/status.

My buddy put together a video of our recent offroad adventure through the Nevada desert. Check it out!!

Land Cruiser, Wrangler, 2×Raptor, Tacoma, 2×F150.

It was a one day "flash" coupon on Ebay, and I was surprised it worked for the Maxtrax.

It's ironic the metal cleats were created for situations that won't destroy the cleats when you spin a tire, but according to them they're for people who aren't going to spin their tires? Logic doesn't hold up very well to upsell to the metal version.

Ya, the only real advantage I see in the Extreme is that you could let a driver of unknown skill use them and be less concerned they'll melt/destroy studs if the driver spins his wheels like crazy. But if you are the driver (and know not to stomp on the skinny pedal while using MaxTraxx)...the standard units should endure just fine.

I already have two sets, and have used them multiple times in soft sand and tiny pebbles x while I do see the appeal of the extremes...man... Two sets of those buy a locker... :)

Huh. That seems backwards! lol
Seems more like the newer folk who WILL spin have their name written all over the main strength of these...
Funny.

Another thing that doesn't make sense is if the cleats won't be destroyed from spinning a tire, then why the need to design each cleat as a replaceable component?

Yes!! I asked them the very same thing. :)

I guess if someone really spun...they could heat the metal so much that it melts the connected poly...but in that case, there wouldn’t be anything to anchor the new stud to. To ya...weird.

I do think it should adequately address the instant melt of spins though. I would be much less concerned letting random drivers use mine with a metal set. On the other hand...you can almost buy an extra on-sale regular set for the cost of one metal...

If money was no object tho (for me is IS, butfor many it isn’t)...might as well get the metals. :meh:

If anyone sees a sale on the original ones, let me know! Got a few trips to some dunes set up in the future along with the Mojave preserve trail this september 24.
