well, i have some bad news... i just broke my elbow and may need surgery. i will have to be out for this trip. the funny thing is, i was working on the cruiser and flatbed trailer getting them ready when i did it.
i had just finished welding on new custom made bump stops and installing the drive shafts. i'm out from work for probably about 6 weeks too. :bang:

i'm really sorry guys. i'm very disappointed right now.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear about that, Shawn. We will sure miss you in Moab. And I'm sure that Jon will step in to lead Pritchett for us.

Can you share a little more about what happened? Maybe it will give the rest of us something to watch out for in the future.

When will you know if you need surgery? I assume that might lengthen your recovery time too? Keep us posted as to your condition, and if there's anything we can do to help out with whatever needs to get done.

Hang in there!

well, i was standing on the flatbed, leaning into a come-a-long that popped out of the groove. i lost my balance and flew over and off the trailer landing superman style head first on the ground. my arms took the main hit. still knocked the wind out of me and hit my chin on the ground. i fractured the elbow end of the radius. the surgery part is, the space between the humorous and radius may need to be shimmed back out. you can see the crack in the x-ray pic. i circled it.
dr appt is next Wed. will know more then.

Sorry to hear bout your injury Shawn. I made a run with broken ribs, you don't need no stinkin' elbow! Besides, I sure someone would be more than happy to take the Bionic Cruiser through Prichett for you. We would take lots of pics for you to look at :flipoff2: . Hope recovery goes well. Like said already, let us know if you kneed anything.

That really sucks Shawn. I suppose it's better it was your elbow rather than you head or spine taking the main trauma. Let me know if you need any help with anything. I only live 15 minutes away. It's not a big deal to stop by and help with whatever you need.

Damn, that looks like it hurts! Sorry to hear...

Post up your broken eye socket pix so they can see how hard your head is (from Rumble in Rio).

Rudy -

It sounds like you will be joining us? Good news. Just FYI - Steve & I have booked "kabins" at the KOA south of town and I think Jon was planning the same. Jon is planning to head up Thursday morning and I will drive up Thursday afternoon. I'm not sure what Steve's plans are yet for driving up.

I'm glad to hear that you're going. I was afraid that we might have scared you off last year with Hell's Revenge! I can't wait for Moab! :bounce:

I think we may be planning on heading up Thursday afternoon. I personally would like to do a not too serious run on Friday - increasing in difficulty as desired as the weekend progresses and as everybody wants - maybe even split up into two groups later on if desired. I was thinking maybe Fins, Steel Bender, Kane Creek, or something like that as a potential first day. Any other ideas? Here's a list:
Moab, Utah, 4WD Trails

Those trails sound good. I would like to see how Da'40 does on Kane.

Despite the itimidation and my fear of heights, I wasn't scared off. I wouldn't even mind hitting Hell's Revenge again and trying some obstacles I passed on my first run. I have the week off, but some finacial problems might keep me at home. I know it is not an expensive trip, but when I need to get a plumbler out on a sunday, your furnace goes out, and you find out that your fuse panel and wiring is a potential fire hazzard (time to up my insurance!), it all adds up pretty quick (and a few other things). Maybe it will help to cut one day out and head up with Jared on Fri. I called a friend who is an electrcian to see what can be done, I plan to play it by ear from there, and see what expenses I need to hold onto to get things done. All in all, I'm on the fence for Moab. :bang: :bounce: Keep you updated, to hard to tell right now.

Looks like I'm going to Moab! Planning on leaving Friday early.

Great news! You'll have a blast. See the other note about staying at the KOA. You can also camp there if you'd like, but the weather can be unpredictable in October. It may be beautiful, or...

The "kabins" are basically a small bunkhouse with the bathrooms in a separate building. They're not fancy, but fairly cheap (about $50 a night). A hotel room in town is another option for you, but you'll be a few miles away from the rest of the group. The KOA is about 4 miles south of Moab.

Let us know if you have any logistics questions we can help with. Glad to hear you can join us.

Rudy - Sorry to hear you're having issues, but maybe you can still head up for part of the weekend. Keep us posted as to your plans.

Your suggestions sound good. Fins is probably a great place to start for folks who haven't done much driving on slickrock. Steel Bender and Kane Creek also are fun trails. Metal Masher is also a good one with a similar difficulty rating. As a group, everyone should be ready for Hells Revenge by Sunday or so. Cliff Hanger is fun, but probably more difficult. They're all fun!

It might also be interesting to try some "new" trails that haven't been offered for Cruise Moab. There are a bunch of 3, 3+, and 4 rated trails on the list that Steve gave us a link for. I'm looking forward to it!
