When are you planning on getting that shaft swapped into the tranny and test fitting everything? Off the top of my head I don't remember if you already part timed the transfer case?
Good question. With the holidays coming I need to tweak my monthly cruiser budget a bit. I got quoted $540 for the rebuild since my NV4500 is not installed in a truck. I was thinking of doing it myself but that price seems very reasonable compared to buying, making, or borrowing tools needed. I also still need to get my adapter cut before final test fitting.
As for part timing the case I have not. That's another big ticket item since I want to swap gears in it at the same time so it probably won't happen until first of the year at the earliest.

Who quoted you the rebuild price? I wonder if we could get a volume discount for two?

DC Transmissions
It was DC Transmission out on 290 between Oak Hill and Dripping Springs. He said labor was $540 once on the bench.

So guys Im going to jump in here. I have a few more parts to complete my 12 valve cummins with Ppump rebuild. I have a 2wd nv4500 and plan on doing as you guys are going to the stock HF2AV on my 97 cruiser. Do you have some machine shops lined up that know what we need and are reliable as of yet? Needing the nv4500 shaft modified and a plate made.

Dutchman for the shaft. Any machine shop can cut the plate.

Yes, any machine shop can make the plate, but will they be willing to is another thing. The machine shop 2 blocks from me that I already have a working relationship with doesn't want to be bothered with it. You know "we're very busy with the regular jobs" kind of thing. I am sure if and when the time comes I can talk them into it. I think finding someone to make it will be a hit or miss kind of thing and I will be curious to see what kind of variation there might be in pricing.

Any fab shop with CNC could do it. I gave the file to our woodshop guy and he had no problem cutting out a wood copy. Too bad it’s for wood only. But if business is booming turn around time is probably slow for one plate.

You probably already know this, but you’ll need a 4WD extension housing to use the 2WD NV4500 transmission.

I was under the impression all along that it was indeed the 2wd version of the NV4500 that you were suppose to use. Although I bought my adapter from allmaras (sp) a couple of years ago.

I believe the confusion might be due to needing a 2wd main shaft and the 4wd Dodge tail housing.

I was aware of needing something but wasn’t sure what. Is the (NV26705) the part number? Thanks for the heads up.

I'm not sure if that is the correct part number. A quick Google search leads me to believe it is, but I would confirm before you order.

Most people use a Dodge NV4500 4WD transmission, and machine down a Dodge NV4500 2WD output shaft to the 19-spline Toyota input on the T-case. This means that you have to open up the transmission to swap the output shaft.

A 2WD Dodge NV4500 would probably work too, but I have never seen that done. You would need the 4WD extension housing, and would need to confirm that the input shaft on the 2WD NV4500 will work with your Cummins 5.9 motor. Some Dodge NV4500 transmissions came with a slightly smaller input shaft diameter (1-1/8") that will not work with a Cummins 5.9 clutch. This also might be an opportunity to upgrade to a heavy duty 1-3/8" input shaft and clutch at the same time.

Ok, good information. Thanks for posting it. I do have an adapter plate as well as the machines 2wd output shaft. Glad I did buy a transmission yet. Was there not ever a 2wd dodge cummins pick up? Just curious.

I guess it all depends on who is doing th

Yes there is a Dodge 2WD diesel trans. I guess there is two ways to look at it. Buy 2WD trans and remove shaft to modify and then put back in using a 4WD tail housing. Or buy 2WD shaft, modify it and install in 4WD trans. The 4WD tail housing is about $100. I bought the 2WD rebuild kit that included shaft for $350. Seem All State Gear is the place to buy.
If you already have the shaft I would get a 4WD trans since it has the tail housing needed. You just want to make sure you are getting the HD diesel trans that has the correct input shaft.

First off, I meant to say that I’m glad I DIDN’T buy a trans yet.

Second how does ones identify that you are looking at the HD diesel trans with the correct input shaft?

I have also found the staff at T&B transmission to be very helpful in recommending the right parts for nv4500 parts. They have used 2wd mainshafts for $50 listed on their website
