Hello. I have a 1985 FJ60, it died while I was driving it. I have confirmed that fuel is getting to the carb. I pulled a plug and am not getting a spark. Replaced the ignition coil, but no love. I am thinking it may be the ignition control module but I am not sure. Is there a common problem that the hive mind knows about? Should I replace it with a used one? Is there an upgrade to the ignition system that would be a better option for the long run? Any help is appreciated.

Did it die on acceleration or going up a hill? Do you have a DMM ? what was the spark ignition? check the fuse? Check power? need a DMM or digital multi meter. Former Electronics college grad and auto tech. Check the simple things. Power out of ignition switch to electronic ignition module?
Flat road, driving home, no biggie, just quit. I do not have a multimeter, ended up towing it to a shop who is having a hard time finding parts.

did you check you fuses?
check the fusable links?
the ignition system is very robust and doesn't need an upgrade
ignition module????? ignitor maybe

When the ignitor goes - there won't be any spark. Ignitors are typically very reliable but sometimes (rarely) it can burn out.

There's a procedure in the FSM for testing the igniter.

If you don't have the FSM look under the resources tab, at the top, and it's available there as a free download.

Thank you, I think I do have it. I collected so many PDFs when I got into this truck. I am not a mechanic, so step 1 is panic, step 2 is maybe we can figure this out, step 3 is have a mechanic look at it. But they do not have the experience and hive mind of this forum. Cheers.

another thought
is the rotor turning in the distributor?
