was driving my 75 40 with the origonal 2f into town for dinner, when the oil pressure started to drop and pretty steady. i stop and check oil, its a little low but nothing major. i add some more and all looks ok maybe just a bad pressure reading. it has fluctuated in the past. go another 100 yards and man is she smokin so bad i think its on fire. i stop shut her down and open the hood to find oil all over the distibutor side from the valve cover gastket down, all over the plugs like pooling, sprayed on the fire wall all over the distrib and the starter, sprayed on top of the oil filter, hell i even see droplets on the back of the alternator. ok so i may have blown a oil line right? maybe a valve cover gasket or head gasket. no oil in coolant and no coolant in oil. never got hot. no oil in the airfilter housing. still runs and sound good. easy to turn over and no rattle or knock. but all the smoke is from the tail pipe. cant see where any oil is actually coming from. had a rusty oil pan and replaced that about a month ago. no metal flakes in pan and all bottom end was tight. new pan on and never ever saw another oil drip. whats the deal and whats the best way to narrow it down? i plan on washing all oil off and go from there. will get compression test done as soon as possible. not my daily driver so im not to concerned on the rate of repair.....just piss' me off. oh well time to get out the beer and think.

this makes alot of sense hopefully that is all it is. but would this cause all the smoke in the exhaust? minor smoke before i mean like a 34 yr old truck i guess, but now you would think im foggin ddt for pest control right from the tail pipe. ill get her wiped down and see what i find in the morning.

ok i think i feel like a tard. i think that my pvc valve must have been stuck or some thing & built up pressure. when a pvc goes bad can they do this? my oil galley plug is still there and all is dry there. i cant figure out any other place for the oil to come from. i mean if pressure builds enough will it cause a drop in oil pressure on the gauge.....assuming the gauge works correctly. could it have burped a bunch of oil out the dip stick hole? i do now know that when i saw all the oil all over the place in the middle of no where and a low dipstick, i over filled by like 2 quarts. made sense i was losing it some place. i had to get my kids(3 & 4) and truck some place and no cell phone. i know it was a dumb risk but i did it. any way i guess thet could account for the smoke in the tail pipe. i drained some oil out and the smoke is way better. new pvc and new hose and the oil pressure gauge seems to work and hold steady pressure. is this coincidance or something more. thanks for all the help.
