Installed a new oil pressure sensor about a year ago.

Car sat for a few months.. just started driving it again.

Would a bad filter give a high or low reading? Curious if I should replace the filter to troubleshoot this.

Possible but pretty unlikely. There is a spring loaded bypass in the oil filter housing (or whatever you call it) that should open if the restriction is too high in the filter.

if it were a bad filter (and a stuck bypass) it would read high pressure at the sender. Again, I think it’s unlikely that it’s the filter, but have been wrong before:)

You could also pull the valve cover off and run the engine and make sure the top end is being oiled.

Almost the first thing I did when I got my 72 in 82 was to install a direct read oil pressure gauge. I used fuel hose to contain the plastic oil line from the gauge to the engine side of the fire wall - that way no face full of hot oil in case the line snapped off. Its still there and still working fine.

This. I would be very nervous if I drove a vehicle without a real, mechanical, oil pressure gauge. Stock gauges are notoriously slow and inaccurate.

If I recall correctly a bad ground usually pegs the meter.

If I was to add that wire I would run from the sender to the instrument panel. However I run a thick cable from battery -neg terminal to a starter mounting bolt, also a woven strap cable to the engine and like #10 to the alternator.
I think this is my gauge. I made a bracket that clamps to the steering wheel housing. I like the lighted at night feature.

your yellow wire w/ black tracer stripe found a ground path , hence full fielding the cluster Gauge element into certain charred doom

- i have both the single wire and double ire versions , i hand assemble each one using all OEM Japan Spec parts ....

- 16 gauge wire , and a nice tidy gloss loom at the end , i also include a 3M Crimp heat shrink butt adhesive lined to tie it all together for a life time of service :

i have also reproduced the 8/80/1990 rubber sender insulator and vibration and temperature stabilizer cover EPDM chemical resistant

Engine Wire No 4 kit us Tite and Right for all years 1961-1990
