I received my Depos on Wednesday from neondials from ebay. The set includes H4 (low) and H1 (high) bulbs and wiring adapters. The wiring adapters are quite nice and appear to work well with the the factory harness. The connection to the H4 bulb is solid however the H1 is a different story. The wiring adapter for the high beam has a secondary adapter that then connects to the H1 bulb. This adapter and bulb combination is pretty awful and the adapter falls off the H1 bulb connections with the slightest pull. The H1 bulbs themselves appear to be fairly generic (Michiba 12V55W) and I will replace them with either Phillips/Sylvania/OSRAM halogen or a lower cost LED solution. These are high beams so I won't have to worry about cutoff but I still want a clean pattern from the reflector.

I ordered the same lights on ebay, but haven't opened the box yet. Would it be worth sourcing a better H1 connection and splice, solder, and heat shrink to the OEM wiring or is the housing to H1 interface unique to these specific lights?

Finding a better H1 adapter was my first thought however after looking at the H1 lights provided, I think a better bulb should be first on the agenda using the adapters provided. Nicer H1 adapters are available on amazon.

Do you have experience with any that you can say with certainty would be an improvement? Link? I'd hate to buy more garbage to replace garbage with.

I'm currently needing to chase down a non-functioning high beam bulb that isn't the bulb, and I'm wondering if this is the reason.

H1 adapters? no.
I am researching H1 high beams now. There are several decent options with halogen. On the flip side, higher end halogen bulbs live short lives. LED looks like a better option but I can't make any suggestions at this time.

Ya, I'd never considered a different H1 adapter before, interesting idea.

So whats the latest scoop on conversion headlights for an HDJ81? Are Depo's available or whats another recommended alternative that has GOOD lighting? I'm still rocking the OEM RHD wrong handed ones with LED bulbs.
I have a local source for some used OEM LHD housings @ $400 for the set, but want better lighting than the stock halogen crap provides.

I have it in stock ready to ship. 😉

@lumbee1 how'd the Neondals from eBay work out? I'm checking these out too...

My OEM driver's side adjustment no longer adjusts and the driver's side reflector seems to be losing its ability to reflect...

time to replace headlights... Funny that the passenger side still has a good beam pattern and the adjustment works fine.

Its probably because the passenger side only gets used when you have a passenger onboard......

Depos from Neondials was good. The driver's side glass had internal scratches. At first I thought they were spiderwebs but the parallel lines indicate more of a manufacturing issue. I would still use Neondials again since shipping was fast and he/she provided H4/H1 bulbs and adapters with very good packaging. I reused all the Toyota hardware on the top and bottom of the headlamps since Depo plastic isn't the greatest quality.

Awesome thanks 👍 do you have any photos of them?

Do you know what temperature the bulbs are?

Photos of the headlamps? or photos of the bulbs? I threw the bulbs away but kept the adapters. I did look up the H1's and there's certainly nothing special about them. I used the H1's once. They produce a TON of heat out of the front of the glass.

Wow thanks for all that research, I'll have to read through that whole thread. But the depos from Neondals don't have the projector housing...
