No "D" Club (1 Viewer)

At 15 years old and 235,000 miles the "D" light is running strong. And I do run with the lights on at all times.

However, the other day I noticed my "R" light is off. Maybe I need to start a new thread.
 
Ohh hang on. Mines just gone from bright and all is fine again. To completely off..
 
I bought a spare Cluster to Fix a bad speedometer.

Needless to say, I know have a lot of spare lights:D.

Mine was out when I got it. It it's broke I fix it, that's the way I roll.

Replacement is straightforward, although you will have to wiggle the cluster to get it out. It's a tight fit. I found that I had to tilt the top forward and then pulled the left side out.

1) remove the lower trim beneath the steering wheel.

2) remove the upper trim above the steering wheel.





3) disconnect the wiring harness to the upper trim.



4) remove the cluster trim.



5) unscrew the cluser.

6) disconnect the cluster wiring harness.

7) wiggle the cluster free.

8) compress tabs on center piece.







9) unscrew brown colored bulb sockets and replace.

I replaced all of them while I was there.

Which slot gets the bulb with the green sock? I'm assuming the "d" slot, because it only makes sense that that would dim the light down a bit.
 
Bought my truck with 180,000 miles on it...the D light was out when I got it. After browsing the forum found out if you hit the top of the dash it can come back on...I guess jarring a connection or something like that. Well, it didn't work for me...I started lightly, then after that didn't work to well, I smacked it harder. Gave up on it, but interestingly enough I slapped it lightly the other day just out of curiosity and WA-LAH, it came on...and has been on ever since.

No d light. Also no tach or speedo. Doors diffs oil light Chek engine work as well as all other shift indicators. Dimmer is blown so tried to jump it and it blows the fuse everytime so I think when the PO installed the head unit he musta shorted something.
I will tear into it another day.
 
Bought at 60k with no D. Still none at 185k. Don't miss what I never had. The 100's D light has always been out too. Clever design flaw, me thinks.
 
210+ and all is well. Now getting the little orange tab on the shifter in the correct place and the light on w/o the trans hunting between of and third is a different story...
