No "D" for me when I bought it with 139k early this year.
AC control lights were out, too, as was the backlight in the indicator on the shifter itself.

On my 1994 FZJ80, the 'D' light went out at 201K miles. It's been out for a few weeks of daily driving.

Today I read that some folks here have brought the 'D' light back to life by smacking the dashboard.

I was a little skeptical, but figured what the hell, can't hurt to try. Just went out and tried it . . . and it worked!! My 'D' glows green again!

Had to smack with moderate force, but of course not excessively hard to cause damage. Created enough vibration to cause the speedometer needle to jiggle.

Took about a minute of smacking various locations around the dash. If at first you don't succeed, keep trying for a few minutes.

Created vibrations on the clear plastic part of the dashboard near the 'D' light itself, on top of the dash below the window and above the instrument panel, on the steering wheel, and on various other spots around the dash.

Unfortunately, this technique did not work on my 2002 UZJ100.

126k on my lx450 - bought it just a few weeks ago. No "d" - Doesn't bother me. Red indicator next to shifter shows it's in drive.

No D when I bought it six years ago with 124.5k, and since I like it better this way, it still has no D at 172k.

If this is the first time it went out, give the top of the dash a good slap.

Worked on my rig and it stayed on for a few more months before finally giving out

Hmm I would like to slap the dash but the problem is that all the cracks in the dash may end up in the floor.

It was lighting dim until it couldn't go no more.

I had a 94 and it was out when I bought it at 150k and it was out when I sold it at 180k. Now I have a 96 and it still works at 150k. I think this is the easiest fix, sell and buy one that works. :)

Just went and checked mine, still lightin' up bright green at 146K. I probably just jinxed myself posting this though! :hillbilly:

No D here as well. I lost mine at about 130k, and I'm at 155k now. And then the OD light went out, and then the Power light. I can't say I miss any of them, although I did buy the bulbs and have considered replacing.

I'm d-LESS at 145K and the air is sweeter and the sky is brighter now that I have broken the conventions of man.

bought my 95 fjz80 at 147k miles, no D after 500miles:cheers:

I would be "D -less" if the po had not had a dealer replace it. At a 160,000 the 2nd bulb is going strong.

bulb is out at around 150k, got the 80 about a month ago. Have no plans of replacing it since it's really not hard for me to look down and see if I'm in drive lol, plus I can just tell by the number if notches the shifter moves

Something I still have not figured out about driving an automatic is how to shift between drive reverse and park without looking at the shifter. After driving a stick shift for the last 30 years I still find this lack of feel bothersome.I really dislike the lack of a distinct shift pattern and the fact that I have to take my eyes off the trail when shifting.
