hey all,
i got a early style F motor with the bottom half rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago, with a 71 head rebuilt 1000 miles ago. timing is right everything is hooked up, but im getting NO compression in any cylinders. i reused the head gasket but it only had 1000 miles on it, didnt use any sealent with it either. anyone have any ideas what my problem could be? maybe i need a new head gasket, and maybe use indian head gasket sealent this time?

could it be the head gasket? something else?

Merry christmas to all, thanks for any help

It's not a good idea to reuse head gaskets..... pressurize each cyl with it on tdc and listen as to where the air escapes.....

X2 on no reuse of head gaskets. It does seem odd to me that you have measured 0 compression on all 6 cylinders. Would have thought that you'ld register something on most. Lets start from scratch: is the compression test rig in proper working order? IS the o-ring that seals to the head in place and intact?

Again, wouldn't suggest such a rudimentary issue if it were not for the claimed zero compression on all cylinders.

You can get a cheap compression tester ( like under 10$) that way you can pinpoint what exactly is going on with it.

Howdy! Sounds to me like there is at least one valve open constantly on each cylinder. I would go thru the valves first to make sure they are right. Did you replace push rods and/or rocker arms? John

When that happened to my JD tractor the cam was broken.

x2. I'd bet you could use a napkin for a head gasket and still measure some compression. Check the valves.

You did adjust the valves after the reassemble?? If not they need to be.......

2 important things that you do not reuse when building an engine..... head gaskets and valve adjustments.........;)

i did not adjust the valves after reinstall... i didnt think that they would need to be? but i guess that sounds like a good place to start.

Glad to know you found your issue.
