Yeah stock is the way to go... Many of the "LAPS" replacement do not have the proper pulley on them which causes issues. Take the truck to your LAPS and have them test it to see if there is an issue with the Alt or the Regulator or something else. Could be your battery not wanting to hold charge properly.

Other alternative would be to find a local guy that does alternator rebuilds and have them do it and mod for slightly higher output.

Think when I got my new OEM Refurb it as about $90 from ToyoPartsZone... but that is for a 60 alt which is slightly different than the 62

I just called a shop about getting mine rebuilt and they gave me a quote at $129. Is that pretty fair?

Usually an alternator shop will dig into the piece and determine what's bad, replace it, then bill you. I had a 12ht 24v alt switched to 12v w/ all new internals and it was $80 out the door. Call around and compare prices before you settle.

How long will a 3fe run with bad lifters? Mine sound like they are pretty much gone. I'm just trying to figure out if I should get an OME lift. Or a motor rebuild?

Tomorrows project just got here. Huge thanks to Kurt! I wish I had more time I would have loved to come up there and got them in person! I'll be sure to come up when it's time for my OME! :)

Anyone have a tips for me when doing this replacement? I am not sure if I will be able to get to it tomorrow due to finals but hopefully soon.

1. PB blast everything for a couple a days prior
2. measure, measure, measure! including number of threads on each end so you will get a good ballpark upon reinstall
3. mine was so rusted, needed two pipe wrenches to remove the ends
4. while you have everything removed, wire wheel, sand and repaint rods
5. I also cleaned off new ends and painted ( I did this after install since ends started to get surface rust)

Good Luck

Alright guys, I am in the middle of changing the TREs, they are definitely the original. They are stuck! I got the castle nut off, but I can't get them out of the steering arms. I bought a pickle fork, and the tre puller and no dice. At this point after screwing around with it all day, and a few cans of nuts off later. They are stuck, I tried to heat them up and still nothing. I'm ready to just buy new steering arms, and go that route lol. I know it's extreme but I am at a loss for what to do now. Any advice?

Hit the pickle fork harder.

Eat your wheaties.

Well I was able to bust the passenger side off, but the dang drivers side is so stubborn! I ended up bending two forks, broke my pitman arm puller, and went through a can of MAP gas, and a can of nuts off.

Finally finished. I literally broke 3 different pullers and got tired of buying them. After many thrown hammers and tools, I got frustrated and grabbed my impact chisel and slammed that final one out, that was my last hope after everything else I had tried. What a relief!

Then I got everything put back together with my baseline thread count and a new stabilizer, it pulls a little left but that's okay, I new I would need an alignment anyways. Overall super impressed with the quality and it made my cruiser feel great to drive! Can't wait to get it aligned tomorrow! Thanks Kurt for the quality TREs and the fast shipping!

Damn, you had a battle on your hands!

Thank you!

Yet another problem has arisen, well I don't know if it's really a problem or not. At idle in park, the motor will stumble or miss, idle fine for a few seconds, then it stumbles again. If you hold onto the steering wheel you can really feel it. I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, and air filter (oem). And it's still doing it, I would imagine it's not supposed to do that? What would be something to check for?

So you put anti-seize on everything this time, right? :)
