Sigh...
I hate not knowing what Im doing.
Bought an ECM off Ebay, says on it 82 22r.
Went to install it and the harness connector is larger than the plug in on the ECM. Cant plug it in, it useless to me.

Hey I noticed your steering wheel looks to still have the outer cover on it. Is that leather? I am working to restore mine and mine is just electrical tape and metal. If you happen to have more pictures of it, I would appreciate it. I have to create a new cast of the foam/rubber and then put a new cover on it. I would like to get it back to original if possible.

I should be able to get you some pics tomorrow afternoon

Thank you! If you can capture where the seams and stitches were at, that would be helpful. I just need to know how many individual pieces of material and roughly where they join. I can figure it out, I think, from how much you have left on your wheel. If i end up with a working pattern then I will be happy to share it back with you if you plan to recover the one you have later on.

So I plan on rebuilding the carb and swapping vacuum lines this weekend...my question is will it ever run "properly" without the ECM?
Or should finding/installing the ECM be my first priority?

Pretty impressed ... less than 24 hours after ordering the new dash pad it was ready to be picked up. Even the parts guy was a bit surprised. My local Toyota dealer had a $130 ish discount on this part so it ended up costing me $330 including tax. Its going to be a big step in improving the interior as its pretty shabby in there right now.

I also had the parts guy run the VIN to help me get an accurate part number for the ECM.

Thank you that is perfect

Stock wheel is not leather covered.
The thread indentions on my steering wheel are faux leather print in the foam rubber? I didn't see much room for leather between the center plastic and the wheel but wondered.

Made some progress today...
In further proof that I dont know my ass from my elbow, it looks like there is an exhaust manifold, not headers as I stated earlier...
Anyway...removed manifold
Removed exhaust studs
Drilled, tapped and helicoiled all 7 stud holes
Installed new studs, new gasket, reinstalled manifold and torqued new nuts to 30 lbs...
Just waiting for lower gaskets to arrive at parts house so I can reconnect pipe to manifold...this should take care of that nasty exhaust leak I had.

Total newbie parts review:
As seen in earlier pics, the interior of this truck is rough to say the least. The most glaring issues are the missing dash pad (already addressed earlier in this thread) and the missing plastic clamshell cover over the steering column...obviously it needs carpet, upholstery etc. But these were the major missing pieces that really made it look bad.
Finding a suitable used replacement proved to be a challenge, as someone stated earlier, 40 years of sun exposure has not been kind to them. Most used replacements seem to be brittle or already cracked. What does that leave me as an option?, the black duct tape that is there right now isnt cutting it.
After reading mixed reviews I went ahead and ordered one of the Taiwanese knock offs that are available on Ebay. I figured anything is better than nothing, and if it didn't work out then I would look for plan C.
It took a total of 8 days from time order was placed until it was delivered to me...not bad coming from Taiwan and having to go through customs in Los Angeles. Estimated delivery was 2-6 weeks so I was pleased with how quickly it arrived.
My first impression was good...both pieces seemed to fit together well, I did have to trim a few tags left over from the molding process but no big deal. I didnt have the screws to put it together but a quick trip to the hardware store took care of that.
Installation wasnt simple but went fairly smoothly, Only issue was the hole locations were just a hair off making it difficult to get the fasteners into position but a few curse words and weird body contortions and I was able to get everything attached properly.
Final grade on this product is B-
I gave it a fairly high score because it looks so much better than the tape, or nothing at all.
It did not receive a higher mark for a few reasons:
The color is slightly off, not by a lot, its still a fairly close blue color.
Fitment just seems "forced", but in all fairness once its in place the seems aee good and overall does not look bad.
I know a lot of purists will frown at the cheap parts, but its all I could do and is a vast improvement.

For some reason the flash makes it look like it is covered in white powder, but it does not look like that in person.

Started rebuilding the carb...got about 70% into tear down and found out these circled parts are missing...i looked at some pice of replacement carbs and they seem to be missing there as well?
Found a pic of a 3rd carb and its there, not sure what the deal is?

Someone worked on the stock carb awhile back..there are a few parts missing.
I have decided to go with a weber 32/36 replacement.
I ordered that today, along with the spiral mounting plate, fuel regulator and blocking plates to remove emissions (I'm in Cali but Ihave "a guy" that cam smog it for me)

That is really coming together. A word of advice on the dash pad: save that for dead last. Make sure all of your gauges etc are working before you install it. Mine was a bear, and I would hate to have to remove it again.

This stuff was a life saver for some of my sun aged interior parts like the center console. It has held up very well.

Thanks, the tach is a little flaky and Im not sure what Im going to do with the dash bezel so I am leaving the dash pad in the box until Im done with everything alse.
The bezel was butchered a bit when the previous owner installed this monstrosity of a radio. I would like to replace the bezel and get a modern radio that looks like a 2 knob cassette player to fit properly in the bezel.

But the replacement bezel is black, not the ritzy woodgrain thats in there now, so im not sure what I am going to do yet.
While waiting for the carb and other parts I started cleaning up the front bumper. There is a slight bit of rust pitting...but nothing too serious. It should look great once I finish preparing it and get some paint applied

I believe replacement bezels are still available.

RetroSounds has a head unit that fits perfectly. I believe it’s made to fit 60s Pontiacs but just happens to fit the old Toys with no cutting.

Min was Crutchfield PN RC900C. They also have a blue tooth model for a little more $.
