Newbie Introduction - I want a 55...help! - UPDATE - got one!

Hello - I'm Steve and I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy a FJ55. I'm from the Greenville area and would prefer to find one w/in decent driving distance. The wife isn't too hip on my idea of driving out to CO or AZ to pick up a 55 but she has given me the go ahead to buy one. I want one that I can do most of the restoration on myself but I am not an expert mechanic so the better shape one is in the better off I will be. I don't mind a bit of a challenge though. Any help would be appreciated! The faster I find a pig (this will be my first Land Cruiser) the faster I can join the club. Does anyone know of any for sale???

Thanks!

UPDATE - Got Yooper's!

Oh young jedi you have much to learn. You dont just find pigs especially not in the upstate and even more especially not in good condition. The one Marshall got a few months back was definitely a once in a lifetime find. You did just miss a decent one in Atlanta that was one ebay a few weeks back. Your best bet is to watch in the for sale section and the 55 classifieds and on ebay. If you dont want to have a lot of body work you need to look out west just like with most cruisers. Good luck though, you can always come help me or Marshall work on ours if you want.

Definitely will keep you in mind. Unless it has my name written all over it, but since I'm a poor college student it wont.

Here is a very nice one that's not too far away. I have seriously considered buying this one for myself but I need to part with some vehicles before I acquire more.

I've heard that he'll negotiate on the price.

Edit to add I don't even know if it is still for sale at this point but worth reaching out to see...

That one has been posted for sale a couple times that I can remember not sure if all by that guy or if he bought it and is reselling. Definitely looks good though, just makes you wonder when stuff comes back up over and over.

I've seen the Khaki one in NC. It looks very nice. I would prefer to buy one that needed a little more work so I can learn how these things tick. Like I said I'm not a mechanic but this would be a good starting point...I want a project.

more work = more money.....we have plenty of project trucks in the club....you are more than welcome to come over and learn on mine....we could spend ages on it!

That is a nice pig. Congrats, good to see it come back here and to the club!!

if i hear of one around here, i'll let ya know. but it is highly unlikely

that one in Raleigh is pretty sweet, man. Go for it!
