Thanks everyone for the information and help. The discussions about a little one in a 40 gave me a lot to think about. They were pretty much the same questions the wife had for me. I guess it looks like I won't be getting one in the near future, but instead, will want for one a few years. Maybe then, my child will be old enough to help me with the upkeep and repairs.

Thanks a lot everyone!
David

Carpdawg- We have one 40 and it is a blast. IF we had one car that was more than two door/two seaters for a possible little one, we would have gotten JP's. But what we have '98 stang- no back seat (modified for three big dogs to ride), '88 not currently running, '01- modified exhaust and power (not ideal for a baby), and the 40. So we need to have a family car. IF you can swing $$ I would suggest getting a 40. You can't replace the looks, conversations, and attention that a 40 draws. And on the trail... what can I say? Ours is basically stock and we keep up with everyone. We don't take the harder lines that "spring over" 40s take, but hold our own. They are great starting point and with all the great people on Mud, you can get parts for them without spending an arm and leg like you could else where.

I am kind of in the same boat. I have my wife's car (Mazda 3, kid compatible) and then my pick up and then my play vehicle (now Miata, next 4x4). So, something that can accept a childs seat without too much modification is necessary.

On kind of a related note, do you guys allow  non Toyota wheelers  on any of your rides? One of the main reasons I was interested in a Cruiser is that UC seems like a pretty good group of people. And you guys do some good stuff that I'd like to be a part of. Just didn't know if I showed up with a j**p, if I'd be ostracized. It's not set in stone that I won't get a Cruiser, but it's looking more likely.

In any case, thank you for the advice, and for waking me up to some thoughts that I wasn't looking past because of the cool factor of the Cruiser.

we always can use atleast one Token Jeep owner in the group........... it makes us really appreciate our cruisers :grinpimp:

seriously though you would be more than welcome to join the club and join us on any rides!!! And just to let you in on a little secret our President owns a jeep, and we let him hang around

I like the advice of waiting. Pulling the trigger now does nothing but put pressure on one of the most stressful times in your and your wife's life.

Hang out, save up, make sure you will be cool with the new fam and then go for it when the time is right...there is always time.

Sage words right there...

Come join us...you'll like it!

Come on down! I always say: "The more the merrier!"
As for the J**P thing; Don't worry we always carry plenty
of tow straps on trail rides. ;)
All kidding aside, we just love to wheel. We don't mind owners
of other brands wheeling with us. It's an off road thing. I think
you guys get it judging by ya'lls questions.

Only took a failed marriage of 7 years to figure that one out.

I speak from experience here folks...listen to me :)

That's why I agreed so emphatically. I am in the same boat and couldn't agree more!! X2 on the speaking from experience!! ;)

Or you can sell your wifes car buy her another one with less payments, buy a cruiser, dump thousands of dollars in it, join the club, make thousands of post, show up for almost all the events and meetings, gain sponsors, work on the cruiser every second, have a child and become president of UC 4 months later. All in 2 years.

It takes a special woman to put up with that kind of crap. I tell he I love her at least twice a day. She gets a back massage every morning. I surprise her with flowers often. And I have no say as to what she buys.

Did I mention I wanted to move the annual meeting to next week? lol
