Been looking for several months and got lucky. Found this 81 FJ40 locally in FL, had original engine and interior, repainted a few years back with minimal rust. The interior needs some TLC, but nothing serious.

I do have one advice question. It came with a hardtop, I'll try to post a pic. I live in FL and don't plan on moving soon. The top has moderate rust, not as clean as the rest of the body but its original Freeborn Red. I'm thinking of selling/giving it away... I know its great to keep it for resale... but when it takes up half your garage its a pain in the a**. The ambulance doors are in great condition with minimal rust, but again, I'll probably only use a soft top or no top. Would it kill my resale value to sell them all??

If I can figure it out I'll post pics. Its getting a few seals fixed now so its not in my garage yet, but mechanic thought it was tight as a tick!

I'm stoked!!:cheers::cheers:

Pics of hardtop

Here is the hardtop, looks better from this angle, but there is rust at all four corners, some with holes. The ambulance doors are in much better condition.

Ooooooooooooo shiney:cool: ..... nice looking cruiser man.

Thats one sweet 40 way to go my friend

Thanks guys, yeah owner lived in the Clearwater area, did you see it Eshu?

Stock springs, I didn't check tire size but looked to be 235/75... In terms of inches, think they are just under 33's last time I did the math.

If you can store the top and amby doors, keep them. If you need funds to buy a soft top, sell them. If you decide to store the top, break it all the way down...it doesn't take up nearly as much space, that way.

If you decide to give it away, I will pay shipping to my door.

:)

Very nice, I've always liked later mosel 40's

Any rubbing?

I just bought mine from a fella in Clearwater. He had a Red one for sale too. I never saw it though. What was his name?

Hard tops are good for those of us in the US were it gets cold in the winter and a hot box for you guys in the warmer states. Bottom line if you are going to keep the truck for a while don't worry about the top...sell it if you don't have the room or take it apart and store it just in case you find a use for it. A truck with multiple tops can sell better then one with only one, then again it depends on the buyer. Funny… I need the hard top in the winter and can’t stand one in the summer so I am always swapping tops or go with out in the summer. If you do decide to sell the top you should have no problem with the cold month upon us.

Congrats on the find and good luck.:grinpimp:

It would be a shame to sell the top to that Cruiser. If anything, break it down and store it. You never know what'll happen later on, you may need it (resale, security, neighbor kids who throw eggs....). Having a hard top can only help you in a resale situation. A nice looking Cruiser with quite a bit of original items like yours could potentially take a price hit for not having the hard top. Best of luck and welcome from Gainesville.

Didn't see any signs of rubbing, but it looked like the rear wheel wells had a slighy flange, doesn't look stock. May have been done when the painting was performed. Can see it on the pics.

Keep the top and doors. If you ever decide you need them it will cost you big bucks to replace... If you can find them... and have them fit nicely.

Nice truck !!
