New Years Ride 2012

mwalls54 was on his way down from Va tonight with my IPOR skid plate and had to turn around because of the snow and black ice. So hopefully he will make it down safe tomorrow (Tuesday) and I'll get it on before the run. My wife has been off work (vice principal)for 2 and a half weeks so I haven't been able to get s*** done on the truck. So I'll be chomping at the bit to get it all in check in 3 days.

Well that's what I meant by "where it was". Put it right back in the way to see if it'd piss off the locals. Although, as Cam said, there is a bypass through the woods to go around that mudhole anyway.

It looks like the weather is gonna be on our side this weekend! Highs in the mid 50's and Lows in upper 30's. Low mid 40's on Sat

That'll be great weather as long as it's not terribly windy (may run my tube doors depending how crazy things get).

Well its definite now that I won't be there Friday morning. Should be there Friday night though; I do have a GPS track to AC cove too so there's a tiny chance, if I get there early enough, I may try to come on in. If there's any other parties that wanna come in late Friday with me, let me know.

Sounds good. I'd originally thought I might try it alone since I have a pretty good track to get there; I'm sure I wouldn't do something that irresponsible when it came down to it though. So if I end up with others that'd prefer going in really late on a night run, that's cool with me. We'll have to keep tabs on each other Friday though as it's a long drive for me and I can only hope I make it in one shot without having to pull over for a nap. :/ If I get on the road by 5pm cst, drive straight through ~5 hours, that'll put me there about 11pm et. How late would you be Andrew?

I agree, it's easy to get lost in there. As long as my GPS shows my correct location, I'm confident I can get to AC cave. It's really just a matter of staying in the right gorge and not veering off into one of the spurs. I'm totally fine with playing it safe but that'll be 10 hours of driving for me just to wheel for like a half day.

That being said, could one of the guides chime in for me here:
What's the plan for Saturday morning? I know there's one or two "guides" to take us in but what's the plan for the Friday crew? Are they staying put at camp til we ge there or they going to be wheeling after breakfast and just meet on the trail somewhere?

So far, the site above AC Cave is where I've heard the Friday crew is staying. Thanks for the confidence Cam, I'm really leaning toward going in late Friday just to be sure to get as much wheeling in as possible.
