Hello all - today I drove home my new-to-me 1992 FJ80. The truck has less than 64k on the clock, is in fantastic shape inside and out, and I cannot wait to make it mine. I am new to the LC world and I just came across this website and look forward to thumbing through old posts looking for information. Some things that need to be quickly addressed. 1) RADIO - the stock unit looks new and works well. Unfortunately I sold all of my cassette tapes at a garage sale and all of my CDs have been ripped onto my phone. 2) Speakers to go with new radio. 3) Window tint. The original owner was an older gentleman as I understand it, hence the weird purple window tint. That needs to go ASAP!

Down the road I'm sure there will be real changes - suspension, tires, etc. But for now I'll be attacking the things I listed above. I'm sure there's already plenty of threads but anyone have a favorite double-din stereo setup? I'm not looking for mega-bass or anything over the top. Just a nice, modern sound system with bluetooth and USB inputs.

Shocked that your username was available, even with the trickery.

Welcome to the disease, sorry about your wallet.

Welcome!

I washed the truck yesterday and thought I'd toss a picture up:

1992 (yet to be named) FJ80 - 64,000 miles, very stock, beige leather, dark brown interior carpets, trim, and accents, power locks, power windows, love the power antenna, Bell-Atlantic car phone (seriously), sunroof, stock radio and speakers (soon to be replaced with Pioneer 1500nex setup), and crappy purple window tint (also soon to be replaced). Everything works except the passenger side power mirror is a bit wonky and some interior bulbs need to be replaced (I saw the LED thread and once I know what I need that's the plan). I'm not a fan of the bullbar so that will be addressed at some point; I like the stock grill and want some that doesn't hide it.

Has an exhaust leak somewhere, maybe an exhaust manifold gasket (gets louder as she warms up)? Going to a local shop hopefully this weekend. Loving it thus far; has become my DD - I live less than 5 miles from work.

Just ordered personalized NJ Save the Shore Plates - WFJ80 (see avatar).

Wow, that's nice. If I had a truck that clean, I would take extra special care to keep it looking stock, but act mean.

I would remove the damage multiplier immediately. No good can come from having that thing installed.

Welcome! What a clean looking truck... Would love to see more pics.

The stereo is easy. Use the brackets off the stock stereo and bolt them right on the Pioneer. Wiring is pretty standard other than it probably has an external amp to the right of the glove box. Wire the stereo up with a connector kit and just unplug the amp (otherwise they normally make noise and sometimes get hot.. You don't need it anymore as the new deck has an internal amp unlike the factory unit). You can remove the amp if you want or just leave it in place unplugged. The speakers are not so easy.. There's not many that fit. Search around and you should find some options though.

That tint was most likely not purple originally.. Old tint tended to fade and react to certain glass cleaners and turn purple. A modern tint job will be nice and should last longer.

Ditto on ditching the brush guard pronto before someone bumps into it and messes up that primo bumper and grille.

Very nice! I’ve got a 92 as well. Regarding the tint, I just removed mine with a fabric steamer, and am digging the tint free stock look. If mine was not garaged, though, I would have left it on to save the interior.

To remove the window tint, I used a single edge razor blade to remove the tint and carburetor cleaner on a rag to remove the adhesive. Don;t get the carb cleaner on the plastic.

Don;t use the blade if you have a rear window defogger, but you can wipe the film with the carb cleaner, let it sit for a while and keep doing that until you can get it to peel up in a corner and get it off.

I’m actually having a local shop handle the tint and stereo.

I hope removing the bull bar is easy and leaves minimal damage on the factory bumper.

Those are some photos for anyone who is interested. In the background of one engine shot you can see my other "Land" vehicle. QQ (as she's called) is a 1962 Land Rover Series II 88" Great little truck.

As for this LC - it really is super clean. I love the wheels - just wish they were 16s. The tires are new, but the PO got them with the white letters. Not my style, but looks good I suppose.

I am very happy; once the new stereo setup is in, I couldn't really be much happier.

Keep those old school 15inch wheels - gives it that classic look

Like I said, love the wheels. Are the 16" ones on 93+ the same look?

The inner sidewall should be black lettering... if it bugs you that much have your shop mount them the other way...

Nice 80!
