I didn't need it as I have a mustard 77 in the garage getting an engine transplant but couldn't pass it up
Its a 75 with 90k documented miles all original
One neat part about it was this was John Denver's FJ40
She runs fantastic for about 100 ft then the fuel filter clogs up so I'm working on that
Picture is before the very difficult bezel modification
New tires and rims asap

Just don't take it up in the air.

Very cool. Any more to the story as to how you came acrossed it. Would be cool to have a picture of this 40 with John Denver in it. This is definately one cruiser to keep mostly "as found".

Edit* I'd even consider leaving the bezel alone

it's been almost 20 years since John Denver passed. Man am I old!!

I got him on 8 track :)

but how cool is that, really want to know more, did he buy it new?

really its been 20 years since he passed....wow!

My ex had some LPs, I still have a number of cassettes from when they were released. I know I'm old.

As far as I know he bought it in 93
I'm still trying by on find out more but obviously and unfortunately he is not around to ask so its on 3rd party accounts

It has been parked for about 6 years in a field
I saw it with my family and sent a letter to the owner of the property

I know he used it to travel back and forth to his cabin at woods lake
Seems well taken care of for the most part

Rebuilt the nasty carb with the help of pin heads you tube videos
I have rebuilt carbs before but the videos helped a ton

Cool 40 and story.

I grew up in Golden; my first job with a paycheck was at the Foss Drug coffee shop downtown.

Pretty Cool!! I think is really awesome that your wife remembers it being driven to school by John Denver. It is awesome to have some history about your "new" rig.

While digging around here on mud, I found the previous owner of my rig, @sherwood. To the best of my research he passed away in 2005.

X10 on preserving it as is... although I'd flip the bezel... he likely knows better now (than whoever put it on that way).

I'd even clean up the rims and keep them... although with stock rims and tires you could put collector plates on it and save a ton on insurance ( at least in these parts).
