just thought i'd throw this one out there, i got a new JL audio 10tw3, and thought i had seen pictures of someone installing in 10" in the stock location, however it was an 8" and then i saw one with 2 6" lol. So i kinda got myself into a tough spot, ended up installin in this location, fiberglassing rings into this location, anyhow here are the pics :)

this is in a 2001 lx470 with mark levinson sound system - i couldnt quite get the airspace to .5 cubic feet but around .4 cubic feet. it sounds good and am happy with it :) i barely have it up, just to fill in the low end

***for some reason not all pics are popping up, if u see the image with an X, just right click>open in new tab>then refresh again , that loads the pic, not sure why but there is a solution :) ***

That looks very clean, nice install! (and not very fun to build...at least not for me. Wood/fiberglass and I don't have a good relationship)

Wow. I may borrow that idea. Impressive!

Turned out great.

Looks great and I'm thinking of doing a similar project. I'm guessing you've had a few car audio systems in your life. What's your opinion on the sound quality of the sub firing sideways instead of rear-firing? If you had to do it again, would you use this same setup? I'm really torn between using a JL 8W3 and this 10TW3.

Also, I'm still getting up to speed on how to incorporate an aftermarket Amp. I know the LC uses a different factory stereo, but did you take the outputs of the factory amp and route them through a line output converter, then to your JL amp? I've heard good things about the Audio Control LC7 for this type of application.

Nice job again on the sub enclosure. Really clean work.

i would do it this way again yes, as for sound quality the bass is great in terms of redirection etc (cant hear direction of bass) however the air space is a little tight, for this subwoofer required .5 cubic feet, the most i could get was about .4 cf, so below about 40hz it falls off a bit bit its still great - i use it to fill in the bass not to bump it like crazy - and it does bump if i want it to,

as for wiring, the amp itself has a built in line converter, so you just take the stock speaker level inputs directly into the amp and just select "high level input" on the amp itself, its a simple switch, i even used the factory connector from the sub and just sliced that into 2 RCA's made to go from speaker level to RCA.

i have thought a couple times as to weather i should have gone with an 8" and to be honest i thought some pictures i have seen online were 10" but it was an 8" which is why i had to put the subwoofer in a different location, now that i have done it the hard part of "figuring out how the fu$% i was going to do this" is already done so i would do a 10" again :)

Take my money! Would you be willing to build me one?

Seriously - the B8 Audi platform had a guy who custom-built a box & charged $500.

It was worth every single penny. Dropped a W6 10" running on a XD600 & looooved it.

Just for some context, a local car audio dealer quoted me $800 to build a custom enclosure for this very same subwoofer.

What type of material would be used at your shop? MDF + fiberglass in this case makes sense given it's integrating stock panels. A shop is definitely going to cost more given overhead ... hence why group buys are so much fun.

Regardless the OP did a killer job.

Did you have to cut the interior panel to accommodate the install? I'm trying to avoid that and my 12w6 is taking up too much space.
