Will this bumper not be able to have swing outs on it? On past vehicles I always ditched the swing outs anyway, putting the spare in the back. I haven't got to that point yet in the 80, mainly because I use the roof rack and need the ladder.
It doesn't attach to the pinch weld?
Looks good.
In a world of compromise, this design looks to have possibilities for weekend trail use, but other than that, absolutely none for those that also use the 80 in town. I like the idea of "100% bolt on no mods required". Too bad unbolting my Kaymar and bolting on this bumper on Friday night & reversing the process on Sunday night isn't feasible.Lot of really nice rear bumper available but none addressed the following.
• High clearance -
• Excellent corner clearance
• No need to cut or alter the frame
• 35" spare fit in factory location
• Factory spare winch 100% useable
• Factory trailer hitch can be used
• 2" receiver can bolt to rear of bumper
• Light weight est ~85lbs
• 100% bolt on no mods required.....
.......Construction
• 1/4" plate
• 3/16" plate
• 1" recovery points
• 1.5" x .188" DOM tube
• 2" x 1/2" angle

I get what you're saying, but it is this kind of attitude that has driven me away from my local club and much of the wheeling community, in general. I get really tired of the comments, good-natured as they may be, that a rig is somehow not tall enough, or the tires just aren't big enough, or that the owner is some sort of poser if they want some armor on their rig for the few times a year when they actually need it.and those who wanna tote around a bunch of REI gear and pretend they're doing something they aren't.

I have no delusions about how gnarly of an off-roader I am. I think one of the greatest things about the 80 is the do-it-all nature. It is exactly the kind of rig, in stock or very nearly stock form, that you can go wheeling, camping, fishing, Christmas tree hunting, etc., then hose her off and drive it to work on Monday. While many of the people here on 'MUD are building their 80s into extremely capable beasts, I would guess the vast majority of people here are lurkers who don't need/want high clearance armor with swing outs and ladders and extra fuel cans. I personally hate swing outs. I tow my boat more often than I wheel my truck and the visibility hit of a big tire on a swing out is more of an issue than the clearance for me. I applaud people looking to build a better/cheaper/simpler mousetrap when it comes to bumpers and such.
I think you misinterpreted everything he tried to say, which was that you can't really have a super high clearance bumper that is 100% bolt on. Some cutting and grinding will be needed. It's a necessary evil given the awful approach angle the 80s have in the back.
