Hey all. I’m new here to the forum. I have a 71 FJ40. I got it in 2014 from my dad who traded a bronco for it in 1977. It’s had a rough life since 1993, a tree fell on it and crushed the top and right side and then it sat in the weather rotting away until I convinced my dad to hand it over. It’s been garage kept until I decided this year that it was time to get it going again. It’s currently getting some much needed attention in the engine bay and then I’ll start working on the body damage and interior. I’ve enjoyed lurking around the forum the last few days reading posts and am excited to join the community. I’m hoping to learn a lot from all the wisdom and wise cracks and maybe I can contribute something myself some day. Here’s a few pics of my 40 for your viewing pleasure. Thanks!

You're off to a good start. Running, driving, stopping. The paint might buff out some. Pop the top off and enjoy. You should be able to find a top side and fiberglass cap or a soft top. Your dad made a good trade.

That old school Oklahoma plate is legit, taking me back to my youth.

Yes Mick is getting the stuff under the hood fixed up for me. He grew up with my boys and has done work on a few of our other cars. He’s good people. Mine should be out of the shop this week and when I get it home I’ll start on the top and seats and miscellaneous stuff. Who knows, maybe we’ll pass each other on HWY 62 some time.

I bought a '79 Toyota 4X4 pickup when they first came out( from "Andy Ewing in Muskogge"don't know if your old enough to remember that slogan...lol).Wasn't a dirt road or trail in Cherokee County I didn't go on...Sure different time's then now.

I do remember Andy Ewing! My dad put a lot of miles on the cruiser when I was young over in rural Adair County, but now the big deer farms have bought up all the open property and there’s no where to go local anymore

I'm about old enough to remember when the closed Rocky Point out east of Tulsa near Inola. Wild times back then.

And when you could float the Illinois River without it being bumper boats.

Once it runs and stops, take a look, at your tires. They probably need to be replaced. Great looking truck. Keep the patina, the paint should buff out nicely
