New 80
I started with a 55 build that broke the bank account, sold it and just picked up this 80 last week from the second owner. He's a retired Col. and serviced it every 3K miles, and it came with every service record.....$23500... of service records.
The first owner got busted by the DEA.... he put these funky wheels on it. The local dealer purchased it at auction and sold it to the Col with 200 miles on it,

Looks good Lou. Welcome to the 80 section. I've been eyeballing your M416, just haven't convinced myself I need it right now.

Couple of thoughts on your build.
-Ditch the stock roof rack (rust producer). Especially if you're going to drop the the headliner anyway, just get the holes welded up.
-Look up ATLASXX and check out his replacement leather.
-Have IPOR build you some sliders.
-Rethink painting the roof white :meh:

Thanks for the welcome....and your thought's

the stock roof rack is getting removed this week....holes welded
and Dynamat and pad installed.

I have gone back and forth on painting the roof.... but have decided it's getting done... the fact that it starts about six inches from the edge... it won't stand out... and if i don't like it . I can always repaint it black

Replacment leather is ordered , sliders will come later.

As for the M416...It was pickup yesterday and towed to Indianapolis.. fellow mudder drove 1200 miles round trip for it.

I painted the roof of my 60 white and it looks great. I am positive it keeps interior temps down too. Good looking 80.

sweet truck... still have those original rims available  :D

I have donated them to IPOR with the tires, for their Spring Sale...you interested:D:D
To be used as roller wheels to move projects around the shop.

Nice to see another Cruiser set up here in VA.

How many axle services have been done? I think the service intervals on the axle is 60k miles so you might be coming up on one soon if the PO kept up with it to this point.

If it ain't leaking don't touch it is my 2 cents.
Just check the bearings and such on a regular basis and change the diff oil often and you will be good to go.
Make sure the knuckles always have a good amount of grease in them as well

thats pretty much the best advice.

Thanks.... all good advice for a rookie... I know the look I want..the comfort level and things I feel are...must have. Beyond that this baby is in the hands of the guys at IPOR.

I work in sales at a Lexus dealership in Alexandria Va and have for 21 years and when I brought the truck in to have the wheels and tires installed one of the tech's whips out his iphone and is showing me photo's of his 80....fellow mudder.. So i feel I've got the service end covered pretty well, between the two.

The truck is off to the bodyshop for rack removal and paint.... local guy... the plan is to remove the headliner, weld the holes and paint the roof...before he buttons it up, he's going to let me install the Dynamat and Liner at his shop.

Got a great deal on a Pioneer Avic-X9115BT double din Navigation...it's last years unit and a local shop that we use to install DVD's in new Lexus had a few left over and gave me a smoking deal....still working and thinking about a subwoofer and speaker replacement....for now I'm going with the front unit.....next week its getting installed ....then my shop will install new front rotors and pads and the new clear and red tail lights and clear front turn signals.
Later in the month its going back to IPOR for front crank seal, replacing the pesky heater hose..a precoutionary move, leather seat covers , rear IPOR bumper if they are ready and front spacer to level out the truck.
Keep you all posted

Lou

Hey if you want to get that thing dirty this weekend, there is a group of Toyota's and other rigs going down by Charlottesville this weekend to Crozet to wheel on Saturday. Kidglove13 is going down with his 80 also.

I will be there, but my rig is not as pretty as that.
If you are familiar with Crozet you know what the terrain is like.
Tight and rough and hard for an 80.:hillbilly:
