Builds Nemesis - a deviant undertaking

The only way I have found to stop a build is to sell it and start another.

Or in the case of my Truggy to lose interest

Lol - agreed; past three projects - not long after finishing, went on the chopping block.

Fingers-crossed, the 60 is here to stay (ok, and toes crossed as well).

The frame is one of the first things I addressed. In fact the undercarriage of my 62 is way nicer than the body and interior. :moon: I'm kind of obsessed with it since it's the nicest area on my truck. As soon as an area pops up under there I address it. The frame, axles, have been completely painted and if an area pops up I clean and repaint it. I use Satin Black Rustoleum for this purpose. One thing I recommend is coating the frame internally with this. The stuff works great. I think I ordered about 4 to 5 cans. I used the extra to do the inside of the doors and rear quarter panels and even in the rocker panels.

Since I can't afford to do a proper paint job at this time I have gone around and through the body and POR 15'd any rust areas. I have three holes in the body, one on each rear quarter panel and one on the end of the inside drivers door. I prepped those and POR 15'd them two years ago and they are still rust free (technically). My goal was to stop any further rusting until I could get a proper paint job which will of course cost thousands. So far it's worked as the body is essentially rust free, even though as mentioned it has three 1/2 inch holes, the rust is not active. It's sealed. Maybe this approach will work for you until you can afford to do it right. So far it's worked for me.

Thanks for the info/story - every project I undertake on the 60, the closer I get to the frame being the only part not touched. With this last round - prepping for the bumpers, dismantling the engine bay - I realized the frame has to be done. . .for my own sanity. . .if for nothing else. The scary part will be - this will be something I do on my own. First project - go big or go home, eh!

15 months?...I've been working on mine for 3 years. THIS is the year it hits the pavement! One way or another!!!!

Initially - 6 months. After first project (headlight harness), moved it to a year. After parts accumulated to the ceiling, my steadfast date is 3 years total (and I don't care if I have to sell a kidney).

Today:

R&R'd the power steering pump; wrapped, boxed, etc., rear springs & hardware, and PS pump.

Here's a few pics from today:

And to do/I want list: Have new steering column & heater valve; want to work on the firewall chaos (wiring, blanks, grommets, etc.). Also, going to rent a hot water pressure washer and clean the piss out of it. . .you know, until I start on the frame-off project =)

Making great progress! Where are you sending the power steering pump?

Off cruiser topic...what leupold scope do you have resting on that Ar?

TEQ 5spd installed after work...with 5 mins to spare bf my shop closed the doors, hehe:

S, you should just talk them into giving you a key. You'd be there all the time....it would be a free security system for them

I called and told them not to do that no matter how much he begged or paid..... Time with Mel is more important...

"ENABLER" STATUS REVERSED!!

If you clean one spot, the rest looks dirty. If you paint the axles, the frame looks bad. It's kind of impossible to stop once you get started. I look forward to more updates.

I thought so! Just saw the same scope at my local shop...bang head. Now I want it!

I guess I missed it did you get a brand new pump from Beno? Thinking I might need to address my pump soon.. Starting to get a light squeal when turning. But it might be a pig stuck in the engine compartment

Cool build sschruff! Your going to buy out all of the OEM parts, and the rest of us aren't going to be able to get our hands on them haha.

Keep up the good work.

Glad I had a head start on him to get the parts I wanted/needed....but calling Onur tomorrow for more parts that I want/need....never ends.

Popped the valve cover off - powder coating same as the thermostat housing/manifold. Going to spend some time over the weekend scraping and cleaning the engine bay while there's room to work. Here's some pics of the valves - not sure if they look good or bad:
