I'm replacing the gasket seals on my rear axle, I'm stuck because I need to remove the studs to get to the seal in between.

FSM says I Need a special tool, checked online they go for $55.00
You'll have to mention which year of truck and which gaskets you're talking about. The earlier trucks are semi-floating axles & the newer trucks are full floating axles.
Are you talking about the gasket sandwiched between the axle head and the hub (on the FF trucks)?

OK, now what exactly are you trying to service?
A gasket and a seal are two different items. So not sure if your looking to replace one the other or both? The thread linked above is for a full float but should still be helpful. Do you have a leak somewhere your trying to fix?

Its the seal that I'm trying to replace, but I'll have to take the axle apart separating the studs and axle because its I'm between.

the oil seal? according to the fsm
1. drain diff fluid
2. jack truck
3. remove parking brake cable clamp and lspv shakle
4. remove diff cover
5. remove pinion shaft and spacer
6. remove axle shaft lock
7. remove axle shaft
you can now change the oil seal. No need to remove studs.

How do you remove the axle shaft lock? That's what I don't know how to do.

I have the fsm, I can take the axle out. I need help to remove the gasket between the deflector and hub. There's a gasket in between. How do I pry that open to get to the gasket?
OK. Hold on a minute here. Your last thread about leaking gear oil through the lugnuts was diagnosed by you as being a leaking wheel cylinder. I suggested a wheel cylinder rebuild kit which you said you ordered.
What exactly are you trying to fix here? AFAIK there is no need to ever separate the wheel flange.

Okay I found a picture since I'm not home right now. This is the part I need to replace part # 42443 gasket brake drum oil deflector. Look at the link and part # 42443

It is hard to picture that assembly but it seems to me that oil has to get past the axle seal in order for the oil deflector to come into play. Replacing that gasket won't do any good if you still have a leaking seal.
To remove the axle shafts:
Remove the diff cover, there is a cross pin and spacer in between the spider gears that is held in by a cross bolt. Remove this spacer and now the axle shafts can slide toward the center of the diff which allows the c-clips to be removed.

I'm also replacing the oil seal so I wanted to replace that too since I'm there.
thanks for the help guys I'm frustrated myself. Looking at the fsm I need a special tool. Can i replace the gasket without the tool.

What's the axle seal? Is that the oil seal?
The thread you posted is regarding a full floating rear axle which you do not have.

When the axle shafts are removed from the axle housing, you can see an oil seal and a bearing that are pressed into the AXLE HOUSING.
The oil seal is very similar to the oil seal on the front axle that keeps gear oil from entering the steering knuckle. In this case the oil seal keeps gear oil from leaking out of the axle housing. The wheel bearing is pressed into the axle housing inboard of the seal so it stays lubricated with gear oil.
In your previous thread, you had diagnosed the leak as a bad wheel cylinder. Is this not the case?
