Just bought this 1990 FJ62 today. First things to go immediately are purple tint and wheels. Looking for wheel suggestions because I have been calling around endlessly and have gotten pretty confused. Some places tell me a wheel will fit, then the next place will tell me it wont. Any suggestions on a simple black steelie or something similar would be great!

Keep that tint. It gets really hot in there. I wish I had tint on mine. Look for some stock wheels on Craigslist. Should be had for a few hundred bucks.

I have stock 40 series wheels and hubcaps and I love the look. As for the tint I would keep it until you can replace it. I put limo tint on the back of mine and am so happy because the sun turns these trucks into greenhouses!!!!!

I spoke to a few FJ specialists and they basically steered me away from going original. I love the original look as well. They said originals arent only very difficult to find but extremely expensive. Same with the tirs that fit the stock. Shocklingly, the AC works amazingly so for now I plan to remove the tint. If it werent purple, I'd probably just keep it

What I wish I had on mine....

Not that you asked, but I don't mind those wheels! They would probably clean up nice. What's the plan for the rest of the truck? Don't get suckered into the cost of a set of wheels and tires if it's at the expense of a good tune up, brake and steering parts, etc.

Here's mine - simple steel wheels. 16x6 and they're about $40 each new. Fit just fine.

I havnt done a full once over yet. I bought it, drove it home about 20 miles and everything worked fine. Even the AC blasted cold air surprisingly enough. It was leaking a little bit of something, not sure what yet. Also, the shocks are pretty rusty so I think there will be some work there.

It probably works great because you have tinted windows. Seriously. It's like a jungle in there and I'm in the dry Colorado desert. You'll wish you had it if your ac goes out.

You can still get new Toyota steel wheels that:

  1. Fit and don't rub
  2. Have the same design as the originals
  3. 16x7 (instead of 15x6)
Cost about $150 ea.

Although a 60 will never look as cool as his truck, this gives you an idea.

These wheels originally came on '91-'95 4Runners and pickups.

Aren't those 70 series wheels?
There were 15" wheels that looked the same on the 91-95 4runners and trucks but they will not have the right back spacing for a Cruiser.

Wow, I wish I had known about those back when I had my 60's... extra width would definitely be appreciated.

I respectfully disagree. I know of a number of vendors that have these in stock. I found a used set for $150 for all four that still had clips. Cruiser Outfitters has wheels and you can buy them from Toyota still for around $125 a wheel. That is less than most of the new Blacked Out wheels you can buy. Hubcaps could cost more but there are reproductions out there too!

Glad the A/C is rocking. That whole system can be replaced still too if it goes out. I have a new compressor and dryer in mine and am so happy to have cold air!

I'm just stoked there are more 60's getting love

Eagle Alloys 100 Series 16x8 3.625 BS plenty of clearance no rub. weigh half as much as the stock rims and have the look of steelies.

I have a full set of original FJ62 wheels with some decent all terrain tires already on there that fit like a glove. Let me know if youre interested!
