Got John, a Mud member in Laredo looking at the truck in the morning. He seems extremely sharp and has promised to check it closely. I will make sure its solid before I purchase it.

$42.6k seems a bit on the high side for an 06 even with 38k miles. I know this is an LC and has more miles, but for example, here's an 07 for $5k less on the asking price. Keep in mind 1) V8 SUV's aren't selling fast at all right now and 2) miles are nothing for a vehicle designed to last 300k. In other words, don't put a special value on in because of the low miles, it's almost irrelevant when it comes to these trucks.

I do agree completely with TXANM, but a ticket and go look at the thing yourself! At the end of the day, your eyeballs will trump 1,000 pictures and inspections.

Color seems to drive the pricing pretty significantly...shallow I know but true!! White and black seems to have a premium.

I agree... BGP isn't the most popular color. But... it's unique and just because of that I'd probably lean toward a Grape Ape than a White Ghost.

TJ over there is very well acquainted with my left index finger by now.

John, you did a fabulous job and saved me from purchasing something my :princess: would not have been happy with. Thanks so much for your help!!

Well, he spent at least 3 hours driving and looking at the truck as well as 28 pics that showed things I had not seen. He saved me a ton or grief!!

What this and other situations like it continue to indicate is that you should not buy a truck without seeing it yourself. I have bought three TLC's out of state and highly recommend that one buys a plane ticket to go see and drive the truck in question before writing the check. Yes, it might cost you a few a few bucks, but relative to the money spent on a truck over the life of your ownership, it really isn't that much.

JohnR is a super guy for going to look at it for you, but that's sort of a tough spot to put a fellow in.

So what were the issues that the honest and competent sales drone overlooked?

It was a no strings attached deal for John, I am an adult and realize the risks.

I will not buy a truck without seeing it in person. I have another option down in Naples, FL and will definitely go in person.

The salesman was honest and did the best job he could. He missed the leaking AHC shock. I have high expectations for $36k+ and the truck didn't meet my criteria.

Just to set the record straight Toyota dealers cannot certify a Lexus and Lexus dealers cannot certify a Toyota ... But both can pull the service history with the vin.. If that car was serviced by a Lexus dealership at the required intervals that leaky shock would no doubt been replaced under the dealerships goodwill program if you had them inspect the truck ...they would a the very least called to see if Lexus would cover it ... That's pretty rare to lose a shock with only 38k and it would have been pretty obvious to anyone driving the truck that it was bad ... It probably hadn't reached failure because when they fail the truck would bounce and would not sit level. You could always have a Lexus dealership inspect a potential vehicle...
Pre-owned LX470's and V8 Land Cruiser's are selling very well...most are being shipped over to Russia ...most last just a few days on the lot in our area
I work for a Lexus Dealership and would be happy to run the service history of any LX or LC your interested in.

A year ago in May I was in the market for a used LX470 or GX470, I researched on-line and the various Lexus and Toyota dealers in the Houston metro area had about 30 in stock combined (mainly GXs). So, I went to the Lexus dealer with the most in stock (about 10) and wanted to be able to do some test driving... turns out that a guy from Nigeria had only an hour before come in and bought all the used LX and GX's. I went to the next dealer, and the same. Turns out, all the Houston dealers were wiped clean.

So I purchased a tundra instead, which I enjoyed as much as I do my Dyson vacuum cleaner.... got the job done and did it well, but I never really missed it.

Sorry for the story time. :D

Nice job JohnR!

Thank ya. It was a pleasure dealing with TJ, thank you for putting us in touch.

JohnR is a super guy for going to look at it for you, but that's sort of a tough spot to put a fellow in.

It's wasn't too hard. I did my best to document everything, good and bad, test everything etc. Making sure a MUD member got the vehicle he wanted was of course my main priority.

It was a no strings attached deal for John, I am an adult and realize the risks.

I spoke with TJ quite a bit before and after the inspection. He's a great guy, and I'm sure he wasn't worried I was going to get paid off by the stealership to make him buy a vehicle he wouldn't be happy with.

I'm just happy I saved him some grief for him, both from the vehicle, and his wife chasing him around the kitchen, frying pan in hand, screaming "I TOLD YOU NOT TO BUY IT OFF THE INTERNET!"
:D:D:D

I am looking at a truck in Naples, FL that has been serviced at a lexus dealer. May need you to look up that info for me. I live in the Southeast and the selection is limited. Everything I look at is overpriced and still doesnt last long.

Thanks again John!!

I bet John likes beer, just saying! It is nice to see other MUD members helping out. Good work John. Thanks for cutting down on domestic violence!

I just last month bought a 2006 Lexus LX470 with 91K miles for my wife. It was substantially less money - but there are lots of Lexus in Colorado so they tend to be less. And Lexus was willing to continue the warranty since they had always serviced it. We looked at quite a few including 4 470s at the Lexus dealer. Most were a little less $$ (10 to 20%) than the one you are looking at but with higher mileage. Most all had significant warranty remaining. One example was a certified pre-owned 2007 at the Lexus dealer. At 60K it still had 4 years and up to 100K miles with an additional 20K option for $2K. What I'm saying is that for the price you see from the Texas Toyota dealer you can get at no cost to you Toyota's certified pre-owned warranty which is bumper to bumper and for a 2006 LX it basically goes for 3 or 4 more years or 100K miles.
The deal looks fine otherwise. The extremely low mileage is certainly a plus.
Get the warranty and go get the car....If he will not do the complete Certified Pre-owned warranty then run away from the deal. In the LX you'll love everything about it except possibly the lack of driver's legroom - but that's the price you pay for a smaller 3 row car and you are probably familiar with that anyway.

Almost correct.. The certified Lexus does come at a cost.... As a dealer we have to send Lexus $1000.00 for that warranty.. But they have very strict conditions the car must meet so it's worth.. Things like brake pads and tires have to be pretty close to new otherwise they are replaced... And you cannot have body panels replaced...based on that you can be assured that your Pre Owned Lexus won't be back to the shop needing brakes.. tires etc...and they must have a clean car fax
Contrary to some who use the reference.. Stealership's which get under my skin!
Lexus has very high standards and above all...customer satisfaction and a high level of customer service is a normal business practice...and one normally pays a little more for that security blanket...
So if you have a chance to by a certified Lexus/Toyota and your comfortable with the price... Go for it and I'm still extending the offer to look up the service history of any non-certified LC or LX you find.

Happy Hunting

Lou
