Almost correct.. The certified Lexus does come at a cost.... As a dealer we have to send Lexus $1000.00 for that warranty.. But they have very strict conditions the car must meet so it's worth.. Things like brake pads and tires have to be pretty close to new otherwise they are replaced... And you cannot have body panels replaced...based on that you can be assured that your Pre Owned Lexus won't be back to the shop needing brakes.. tires etc...and they must have a clean car fax
Contrary to some who use the reference.. Stealership's which get under my skin!
Lexus has very high standards and above all...customer satisfaction and a high level of customer service is a normal business practice...and one normally pays a little more for that security blanket...
So if you have a chance to by a certified Lexus/Toyota and your comfortable with the price... Go for it and I'm still extending the offer to look up the service history of any non-certified LC or LX you find.

Happy Hunting

Lou,

I find your comments very interesting...

Last May I purchased a used LX 470 from a Lexus dealer. That particular dealership has been a 17 time (every year they've been in business) Elite Of Lexus Award winner. Sounds good, huh?

It's a 2002 and had 42,500 original miles. Prior to flying there I was told how all of their vehicles had been through a comprehensive 160 point inspection. The vehicle was "virtually perfect", etc, etc.

When I got there I looked things over pretty carefully and found a leaking CV boot, the coolant was low, as was the AHC fluid. There were some undisclosed minor dent issues as well.

So what's the deal with the inspection? They see something wrong and ignore it? The dealership knew I would be driving about 1,000 miles if I purchased it and it was too much to make sure the anti-freeze was full?

They ended up discounting the price quite generously, and I purchased it.

When I got it home I looked under the rear cargo mat and saw what looked like a big coffee stain. I spent a few hours cleaning that up. Covering up a big stain isn't what I consider to be acting with integrity.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but my experience is that a used Lexus is simply put... a used car. The salesmen all wear nice clothes and they are extremely polite, but in the final analysis they are no better (or worse) than any other typical dealership. They play the same games and it's 100% up to you (the purchaser) to determine the vehicle's condition.

Sounds like you got a nice car... that was not certified and you are correct those small issues should have been addressed before you arrived...
I still don't like the term and I doubt CDan or any other mud members who work in the industry who do have integrity do either...
Sorry you had issues with your purchase

Lou
