Sorry took so long to respond. Mine is factory locked.
Yes I redid the suspension on my '91 PZJ77. It was almost going negative on the front. Thanks to Wayne (is the crushersrule.com email not working?) for putting me on to Dobinson in OZ, where I got a digital catalogue off their site and found that the P/N for the rear leafs for the 77 was the same as a 76 and the front leafs are the same for most 70s. So I got the really HD front leafs for a 75 and the HD rear for the 76. Shipping from OZ after several emails with Chris (owner of Dobinson) ended up being way too much (mid 2Ks) with duty and S&H, taxes, etc. So I called ARB in Renton, WA and got a total OME setup (~ 1/2 as much). Took a bit to get them to USA but worth it.
After watching and assisting (minimal) Wayne (thanks again!) install my suspension in the my former 73 series, I knew well how to do it. Perhaps not as fast as Wayne but it went in OK. Hardest part was taking off the old Steering Stabilizer. Now that it has been on there for about 2 years or so, it has been great. I also used the new Nitro sport shocks, much better than the old ones.
Question: is the 77 club just the HZj or are PZJ's included?
While we are on the 77s, I have two small issues you might be able to help with:
- I am getting a bit of white smoke on cold starts in the mornings. Any idea what this could be due to? Doesn't happen except for cold starts, once warm starts fine no smoke at all.
- Leaking diff fluid from transfer case /tranny area, have replaced all pinion like seals front and back, redid PTO cover gasket and plumber taped the bolts. Could it be the plate between the transfer case and tranny? if so, is this a tough/easy job and what do you recommend for gasket...PVR?
Thanks in advance, Jan
BTW: Fuel economy on the flat stretches across the desert in USA and MX, I get anywhere from 7.6-8.5 L/100 kms doing my steady 85 kph. about 1100 kms per tank (90L). Turbo (installed by Wayne for the former owner) rarely boosts except when pushing the truck a lot or up hill. Maxed out around 10PSI.
Cody (thanks tons!) and I worked on it recently took the rod out from the waste gate control and shortened it by about 0.5 cm and re-installed. The rod was bumping each end inside the hex nut (~1" long). Upped the fuel about a full turn and get about 13 psi now and still EGTS are about 6-800F when at 85 kph. A bit of black smoke so I turned it back a 1/2 turn and now she is fine. Boost climbs up faster now then it did.
