there is less than a dozen in NA ...
the only club that has rarer members is the ragtop SWB 70 club, 5 in NA.
or maybe the 75 series troopy club, 5 (that i know of) in NA

Does Dobson make a complete kit for the J77? The previous owner installed the OME kit in mine, but i understood that the rear leaf pack is a different length than the other 70 series. Mine has the original main leaf and then the OME installed under that.

Congrats on your new cruiser.

Sorry for rubbing it in . These 77s are a bit tippier than your 61. Be careful.

hummm, it seems driver error is more the cause than the vehicle design.
think about it, same height, same wheel base width, same location of drivetrain, longer wheel base... if anything these should be MORE stable rather than less stable ...

just sayin...

regular 70 series springs on the front.
76 series springs on the back. They are the same length.... Jan Alsen did this on his pzj77.

My 77 feels basically the same as my 81. Maybe a bit better tippy wise.

As for 77s, I wonder how many are factory locked in the country:)

So I have not been driving my 77, instead my I've been driving my 40. This is because when I drove it into BC I got a chip in the windshield that grew into a crack as soon as I hit some rain. As a result I cannot go through a BC safety inspection and pass with a cracked windshield. Long story short I have a new windshield now and gasket which will be installed tomorrow. I'm hoping I can get an inspection on friday.

Heres the question, what are they going to look for specifically and what should I look out for when it gets done?

I have all DOT glass and proper lights. What about seat belts? Do they look for some sort of safety tag on them? Everything works on the cruiser but one thing, the rear windshield wiper goes up but not back down. I have to look at that and sometimes the drivers window gets a bit sticky and can take some effort to get it to go up? Are these little things something to worry about?

It depends a lot on the inspection facility. Mods to mine included having it wired so that it won't start without the clutch in and side reflectors. I had no problems with oop inspections for the 77 or 73... But I live in redneckville so that probably helps.

Where did you source the gasket? I may need one w the next windshield.

Thanks. I hope I won't need that clutch in thing, never liked it in new cars. I'll look into some reflectors maybe from princess auto I can just stick on

I got the windshield from Radd but the gasket with the chrome is very hard to find so I went through ENS in Sask. it doesn't have the chrome but I sorta prefer that. I think it was around $65 and thats a genuine toyota part. for reference if you need it the part # is 56121-90K01

Right on. Thanks. The local windshield shop told me they could get the chrome inserts no problem if I needed them down the road... Just an FYI that some shops may be able to source them.

good to know, thanks. My windshield was supposed to be done today but when the glass shop opened the box the windshield it was smashed up pretty good. A new one is on route and will be installed sometime tomorrow and inspection done on Monday. I hope all goes well

I know of 4 in BC (HZJ77s)

It feels good to be in the club...

I've had one, attempted inverted motoring with it (unsuccessfully) and now it's a 77-78 hybrid. Just waiting on some time to get the parts from Steve at EBI (he has a wrecked pz77) to make mine look a lil bit nicer again.

there's probably more than 10 in the Lower Mainland alone. I know of at least 4 others than mine in the GVA.

but i'm told that mine doesn't count anymore. Allegedly it's a Trooper now.

boo.

Congrats, and welcome to the club.

lift wise: sprung over, ARB single HD leaf in the rear pack, front springs revered to move the axle forward 1.5", clears 35" tires, no rubbing.

After: it's a "78 series trooper now"

Before: "PZ 77"

that looks a bit bigger than what I am going for. Looks like a nice trail rig though I must say

Had my inspection today and failed. My front discs were not within specs so they need replacement and my front knuckles are leaking all over my brakes and the inspector didn't care for that either. Bearings are getting done tomorrow morning. I guess thats what I get for not going through that myself.

I have my HZJ77, a 1995 model. I purchased it used in 2004 at 44,000km. To date I have done 320,000km of trauble free engine. I am not sure what does it take to convert it to turbo, but I am not complaining as the car does very well on rough road. It consumes an average of 8.6km/litre if driven not more than 120kph. Above that consumes more up to 6.5Km/L if you exeed 130kph.
I have replaced suspension twice and these were from Australia.
I am driving it Africa roads and not easy to get stuck. if you want I can send some picks of the car in action.

We would all like to see pics in action of the rig

lets see some pics.

As far as mine goes after failing inspection due to worn front disc and a leaky seal my front end received a total rebuild and paint. It look purdy and on Monday I get another inspection so I should be driving it by then

hope so!
I would have taken it so some shady shop that would have just passed it!
