Fhultgr,

I have a OBA setup using a York compressor and need a tank. How large is your tank?? How is the performance of your system using the electric pump?

Bad A$$ setup.... good job.

Stu

I have about 80 liters of oil in the system, so i do not need any cooling.

Is that a typo or do you really carry around 20 gallons of hydraulic oil?

Sorry for my bad writing skills.

fhultgr, your English is better than my Norwegian (which is non-existant) and your writing is easier to read than the texts from younger people these days!

Nice work on this project. Looks great!

Thank you
I use a 2 gallon tank from Extreme outback.
I am quite happy with the performance, it fill up 35" in a short time.
The best part is not to worry about duty cycle, 24/7

Does your truck have an automatic transmission? Is it full time 4wd?

I want a PTO badly, but I was under the assumption that it was only available on manual transmissions with part time 4wd.

Automatic transmission and full time 4wd :-)
Very rare option, there is some of them in europe.
After what I have heard it is most of them in Finland, mine is from Germany
If I should build another rig like this, I would rather use an engine driven pump
I would recommend something like this Harrier Fluid Power Ltd T/A Flowfit FLOWFIT MECHANICAL CLUTCH AND PUMP ASSEMBLIES
Then it would work in reverse also, mine only work in drive

I've run a hydraulic winch from a Power Steering pump for a few years. It was a MileMarker 12k. I LOVED it. I had it on my big diesel pickup, and it definitely got a work out and I got my money's worth out of it. I've been toying with putting a hydraulic one on the 80, but was planning on running off the power steering pump.

I have a thread out there with this setup on my 80. The stock pump is more than adequate and it works great.

So are you guys using the power steering pump to drive the winch or just the pulley? I was thinking along the lines of replacing the AC compressor with a hydraulic pump but never thought of using the PS pump already there.

Can you link that thread I can't seem to find it
If you do use the PS pump did you increase the reservoir size?
have you given up PS all together or is there a DCV in there so you can switch between winching and steering?

You lot have inspired my next project... I have an old electric winch but the motor is cactus... i'm gonna convert it to hydraulic! ...

any chance someone has a system diagram of their setup?

I used to have a Land Rover Defender with Milemarker hydraulic winch.
This was driven with the power steering with a cooler.
In my experience it was to weak and extreme slow
I would strongly recommend a dedicated pump for it

here is my thread on the winch install https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/59466-filled-hole.html

I find that the 1FZ-FE power steering pump does just fine. Tests have shown that it makes enough pressure but the gpm is a little low so it will run slower than rated. I'm working on a cooler upgrade which will provide a fan for slow moving situations and augment the capacity as well.

My buddy is a rover fan and those trucks are the biggest POS on the market and I would not use any experience with them as a barometer of what to expect with a Land Cruiser.

Now my company has asked me to attend some training in Kongsberg Norway, fhultgr are you close by?

Use the pump. On Dodge Cummins trucks, it would go Power Steering pump -hp line>winch -hp line>steering box -low pressure line> reservoir. I ran a filter that had a magnet on it on the low pressure return line. I believe there is a cooler somewhere in there, but I'm not sure. May be between the box and the return (On Cummins).

They put out enough pressure, and about 3.8gpm iirc. Not sure on the flow ratings of the 1fe PS pump, but judging from the size, it's most likely close to the same.

Great thread landtank thanks

Power Steering pump -hp line>winch -hp line>steering box -low pressure line> reservoir

This makes sense... PS should be unchanged when driving but do you lose much when winching?

I live about 600 km from Kongsberg.
Are you in military business?
