Got my truck back from ACC yesterday with my new long ass 5125s. Went to put the shocks on only to find out that the diameter of the bushing eyes on the Bilsteins are way to small to fit on the shock vehicle mounts. No bodies fault, its just none of us knew that was going to be an issue.

My brother, Aidan, and I drove the truck back to the shop today, with no shocks attached, thinking i was going to have to return them and wait for another type to be shipped out to me next week :crybaby::crybaby:. Instead, we arrived to a baggy full of 80 series Ironman bushings and a box cutter with instructions to get cuttin lol.

After slicing them up to make them fit, I was finally ready to install...

Part numbers:

12" travel shocks (F4-BE5-6249-H5)

Procomp shock adapter (goes on the top on the front 2 shocks) (690001,690002,690003) One of those i guess?

Finished pics...

looks pretty good IMHO :D.

Nick has a sticker on his 100 that reads, "Trail rash is sexy"... I find that to be an accurate statement.

Big ol' shackles... Seriously, they're HUGE haha.

front shocks (bad picture, adapters aren't even in the photo haha)

Its not rust :flipoff2:!!!!!!!! I just hate cleaning...

And to give you an idea of the height of my truck (I'm 5'11ish)

Oh... Do y'all not take pics like that with your truck... YOU GUYS ARE THE FREAKS, NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, thanks again to everyone who helped me at ACC and especially to Dave (lcwizard) for getting me such a crazy good deal on you product. I suggest everyone go directly through Dave instead of MAF when buying 4+ products.

Very nice Patrick.

See that, compliment from Onur... I'm officially a cool guy!! Can't wait to see your 60, bud. Hopefully at the swap meet later this month.

That's really tall, unless you lower your bumper a notch it looks like the average small car will go right under in a head-on collision; but you might lose approach angle...

P.S.- Does the lower part of the bumper block your headlights at all?

In case of a head on wreck, I'll make sure to aim for a 1/2 ton pickup... so it's fair.

Edit: No, headlights are not blocked. Blinkers are though, but they're on the bumper as well so it doesn't really matter.

Patrick do you have a pic of the shackle angle in the front? Just curious, as the Ironman leaves are longer? Your rear angle looks to be similar to mine (straight up and down). How does she ride with the Bil's?

I was curious as well as to what angle the Ironmans would give me, but it's pretty much vertical. But some pretty smart cruiser guys told me to not worry about it, so I'm not haha.

The ride with the 5125s is amazing. Sooo good. over by ACC there is this place that looks sort of like an old unused industrial concrete factory and its "parking lot" is just little rocks and holes in the ground. I went as fast as I could through that (aidan got scared cuz i didnt tell him what i was doing lol) and it felt like I was just floating over it. Kinda like airing down to 15psi.
I then spent the highway trip hitting every bump, hole, or crack in the road at 70mph. The thing rides like an 80 series, even with vertical shackles. I really like the shocks.

Looking good. Another future upgrade would be a wrap around bumper for rear protection, and next time get a sexy gal to pose next to it.

sweet looking rig man, have you measured how much up travel you have in those shocks? Using the stock mounts I really doubt that the 12" travel shocks will cycle correctly.

measure the distance from your bumpstops to the axle and compare that to how much shaft you have exposed while at rest. You do not want your shocks to bottom out before you hit your bumps.

I have the same shocks up front, what valving did you get?

So going from your previous suspension setup to the current one... All you did was put on the SR bracket from lcwizard, new shocks, brake lines etc, and shackles?

I wouldn't mind rolling on 35's some day.... Although then I would need to regear. Down the line, down the line :)

Thanks. Yeah im looking at the 4x4 labs bumper, but id really like to have the 4+ with some sort of integrated quarter guard. And ill see about getting a few honeys to with the truck lol.

craaaaaaaaap... i see what youre talking about. I was wondering why the boots looked so scrunched up even when they were on level ground lol. looks like ill be going back to acc to measure travel with the shocks attached this time and see whats what. Thanks for looking

Oh yeah, Valving is really firm on these, i believe 255/70.

ok, but don't flex it out with the shocks on it will destroy them.

you need to do this up front:
Picture091.jpg

1980 Ford F250 shock tower
part # E5TZ*18183*A

then you're gonna have to inboard the top mounts in the rear kinda like this:

or you could get crazy and bring the mounts into the cabin like I did for my 14" travels... but don't do this, total PIA

all in all these mods will get you a ton more travel, you really have no choice because you as of now have no useable uptravel. Make sure to get extended brake lines if you havnt already.

Almost, Daves kit (On sale for $160 shipped) came with the:
-SR bracket
-Modified rear shackle
-Front axle shims
-bushings

You'll still need:
-2 grease able pins (I used Ironman ones) ($25ish each)
-2 MAF extended shackles (part #GSK-60LPR) ($60ish each)
-4 longer travel shocks
-2 frame to axle brake lines
- extend both your diff breathers

Probables for 35s:
-1" or 2" body lift.
-regear (pssh, yeah right :o)
-Trans cooler for sure if automatic

The shocks will be fine. That's what we flexed it and measured before we ever bought shocks.

really? surprising because it looks like there's about 4" of shaft left to compress on the shock and about 8" between the frame and bumpstops. Maybe it's the camera angle, Robust measure the shaft on the shock and measure between the bumpstop and frame. Post the results.

I remember that, talking about how it needed to be shorter than ... fully compressed but longer than ... fully extended. we did choose a shock that fit those requirements and it all made sense that it should work perfectly.

4.5" of shock shaft showing, 8"ish from axle to BS.

Now im super confused

Yeahhh... feel free to go flex it out, maybe your spring rate won't allow the axle to compress enough to hit the bumps? I know that typically you can't just throw on a 12" travel shock onto the stock locations, it defies logic as it is considerably longer than the OEM shock.

this is a great thread from a long time ago, I used the same hoops up front on mine. I am considerably lower than you with only about 3.5" to my stock bumps SUA but I allowed for about 4.5" of shaft exposed.

edit: Robust can you post a pic of your rear shackle, it looks like it's straight up and down.

thanks for the link. Ill read it more tonight. After hearing more from Mike, Im pretty confident that the shocks will work well how they are.. At least until i get my flex on and am able to check for carnage.

Just waiting on brake lines now, then... Windrock later this month!!!!!!

edit: Ill get the pics up of my perfect shackle angles tomorrow ;)
