We finished up the main bumper shell of the 4x4labs and decided to paint it up and install it. So far, I'm super happy with how it's turning out.

The whole bumper is welded inside and out and the exterior welds were ground down to make nice curves on the edges of the bumper.

Spindle welded inside and out of the shell and the tubes stitch welded the whole length of the wing on the inside.

The wings are really tight to the body at about 1/2"- 3/4" away right below the tail lights. The tube on top of the wing really secures everything down and makes it all solid.

The quarter panel protection is awesome and is exactly what I wanted. It covers up the whole panel and really prevents any chance of any damage from this point forward.

The end of the wing sits just a tad over an inch away from the body closest to the fender. With the tube on the top, it doesn't move too much and I'm not worried about it making contact with the body if it gets banged up on anything.

Next step is to get all the swingout materials purchased so we can get started on that part and finish up the bumper.

I like the bumper but see a couple things that might be an issue for me. So close to the quarter panel means a lot of funk would get stuck in there off-roading and be a pita to clean out plus likely to scratch the paint on the body. I would prefer the side protection on the quarter go all the way to the edge of the wheel well for a "cleaner" look. Besides this it looks great!

Would you mind reporting back once you have the spare mounted up? I would like to know if there is any vibration or flex in the bumper with a spare on there. Last bumper I had the entire bumper would flex at the corner when any vibrations happened to the tire. Big pot holes were the worst.

Cheers

Patrick... If you are able to stand the sight of those hideous Hutchies on your truck for a couple more months I may be interested... the Cruiser Stash of Cash needs to replenish however...

How's it going by the way??

I'm fine. 62s happy as can be. Haven't done much besides add miles. Well see on the hutchinsons. I'd like them gone, like yesterday, so I posted some on other forums. Try and quickly replenish that stash.

Time for 8 lugs...

Don't like the hutchinsons? How come?
I love them, just not on the 62. On an FJ or tacoma, hell yeah! just a little too new looking. TR, Walker Evans, or BTRs would be better suited i think.

Did you see the for sale thread in the ga cruisers? Such a good deal on those.

Yeah, I did which what prompted the comment. I don't think it's in your best interest unless you see a power plant swap in the future or REALLY rowdy driving. The only advantage I see in your case is track width, but it seems like you have that pretty much under control.
