going good my man

I have a 1978 myself and just started taking it apart this past weekend for a restore. I am going back and forth on keeping the 2f i got. it runs good but i do like the chevy and the gauge set up you got. how hard was it to make that work. Also, my tub rust is still to be determined but i didnt' want to get an aluminum tub because bolting steel to it isn't the best thing. How is yours doing?

Paul

keep it going your doing great!

Like i said i LOVE seeing another somone my age tackling a project like this. WHen you get it done you'll realize all that hard work payed off. ANd the work you've done looks great !

Paul, If your asking about how hard it was to get the guages to work...it wasnt. I had to rewire the whole thing and used a 12 circut GM Painless wiring harness...the gauges were easy to put in. 30min-1hr job. Man if I had a functional 2F I would keep it...seems cool to keep it origonal...but depends on your purpose. Mine was allready converted over to a 350 Chevy when I got it...all I did was replaced it with a new one.

In regards to the alum tub bolting up to the steel front- I definately wouldnt worry about that. When you recieve the tub, it comes with a big thing of Sikaflex, which is an agent (similar to sealer) that forms a thin layer between all steel to alum. surfaces...so they never touch. It was all very straight forward, and what appealed to me was that its a bolt on job rather than weld up. This topic has been extensively covered in THIS link.

Answers alot of questions.

thanks

Yeah, I toss and turn over what to do to the beast but I probably will keep the 2f running till the end. I like what you did though. Lucky for me that my dad has worked auto body his whole life so we are going to try and keep the steel going and just weld in the panels as needed. Im in Fl so rust from here on out is really not a factor. Well Keep the post uo because I love what your doing and it give me tons of Ideas.

Love the sound of open exhaust on a 350. Can't wait to see it drive, hopefully today?

My man you are doing great! Every time I check on here your onto the next step. Im sure everything will go great or you will solve the prob w/ some help from your friends. Now, how is that shoulder rehab commin?

Paul

well we called it a short night last night, because I started to feel ill...and today im definately sick. So...im going to sleep for the all day today, take tons of vitamin C, and then my mechanic buddy and I are going to pull a partial all nighter on saturday 5;30PM SAT- 3am sunday....or aatleast thats the plan.

Last night we got the tub bolted down, and made the custom throttle cable work.... also the new MSD wires I got are a bit short, so we have to spin the cap 180 so that the #1 is in the back, and re time it....then it all should work....

liner

What is the best way to remove rhino liner. I heard use a torch but that seems a lil over the top, but may be necessary. The PO rhino lined everything (including most bolts) and the stuff is real thick. If anyone has a easy method I would appreciate it.

Paul

hmmm not sure about how to remove the stuff...have you searched it? I remember reading a thread about how to get it off...im sure a wire wheel on a grinder would work...but the dust would be super bad. Well we called last night off. I just got back from the doctors and have strep throat. So I guess this weekends plans are being moved to next weekend....It would have been nice to take it out for a test drive for my birthday (tmrow) but thats obviously not going to happen.

in the mean time....here are some pics from friday... just messin around.

Eli,

You're making awesome progress. Nice work too.

In looking at your picutres it seems that your cruiser is larger than your garage door...hopefully you'll be able to get it out :grinpimp:
