Danny, I was only joking about Sodom and Gomorrah.:(

We live right on the cusp of Las Vegas, in North Las Vegas... a town known for gang activity and drugs and violence... since we are so far west, we don't typically see this type of violence in our area... but, Erin tends to bring bad boys home.

I've already spoken to Kelly (her dad, the leasee) and I think he got my point... we'll see... if we have to, we'll have the HOA kick them out... he's a renter, not a homeowner.

Dianna and daBoise were pretty panicked... Dianna had to take one of her anxiety pills... daBoise had a long nap after the dozen or so police cruisers, firetrucks and EMS left and it all calmed down.

But, enough about this... we're leaving a week from today, for a slow drive through Utah and overnights at 9k', on our way to two weeks in utopia at 10k' in Colorado... we'll be gone for 3-4 weeks. I'm hoping my spine issues will let me fly fish... we'll see... but camping up there is simply wonderous!!

I had pleurisy there one year and Dianna had to drive me 1.5 hours to the nearest hospital... six hours in the ER and Dianna said, "we should go home (to Texas)". I said, "I'd rather die here than in Texas". We stayed... the next day, Dianna broke her wrist... I took her 1.5 hours to the ER and they set it and told her she needed to go home and see an orthopedist. She insisted we stay... she toughed it out for 1.5 more weeks and when we got back to TX, my orthopedist said her wrist wasn't set properly $34k in (insurance covered) surgery and titanium and she was 'healed'.

@SuperBuickGuy, I carry a lot of first aid equipment, especially that far from help and no cell phone coverage... but nothing for pleurisy (we thought I was having a heart attack) and I would have probably made a bigger mess of her wrist. But, how do I find your list??

Here's a tease, from a 2009 trip with Mr Parker (in the middle) and Sgt Gunner enjoying the river.

I just realized, the ER visits were in 2009 - here's Dianna the next day... a real trooper!!

Danny, I'm glad we don't have that kind of excitement around here, at least not yet anyway. We do live less than half a mile from I-5 though, with nothing but brush, trees and a pond in between. So the potential is there.

Good evening Danny, Hope all is well.
Not to sidetrack your thread but I had a conversation this morning with another individual during Jury Duty recess and well it reminded me of the console in your 40 with your pins and military memorabilia. I was curious if you have any challenge coins or other pieces that are special to you and what the story behind them may be? If you wouldn't mind sharing.

Sorry... I never got into challenge coins.

I have my and my Father's medals and my organizational badges from NORAD and AFCENT and a large photo (signed by a number of friends) of the Air Force Manpower and Personnel Center.

I'm in New Mexico tonight, but will be home by Monday.

Reply here and tell me if that's of interest to you and what you would like to know and I'll create a thread in the Veterans' Highway (see my signature below) when I get home...

In fact, that sounds like a great thread for the Highway!!

I'm sure there are probably Vets with a lot of memorabilia.

You are welcome to join the Highway... Just reply to the Welcome sticky thread and introduce yourself (vet or not).

Then start a thread and ask your questions.

Thanks!!

Welcome back, hope you had a great time in the mountains!

Thanks Ryan!!

We had a great time - very cool, only rained two evenings.

Flies and mosquitoes were irritating, but we took a screen 'kitchen' for the picnic table and a screen room to sit and visit in... So, all good.

But, I wasn't able to fish or hike... I could barely stand or walk almost all the time... First time I've been there and didn't fish...

Tommy (SiL - aquatic biologist) caught a lot of fish, but he hurt his shoulders removing Hydrilla (by hand, while diving... Endangered fish and rice require manual removal) from the San Marcos River, in San Marcos, TX, before the trip and wasn't able to fish as much as he wanted.

But, we took a drive up to Treasure Creek and I should have some good pics when I get home... It's a gorgeous valley!!

I'll be fishing there when I can.

I have a spine surgeon appointment on Aug 10th... I'm anxious to see what he says...

As I told Ryan, above, I wasn't able to fish or hike due to back/hip/leg issues... so, I took pictures whenever I could and read a lot of books.

Here are some of my pictures... Its a real shame about all the dead trees (beetle damage)...

One day, while everyone else was hiking, Gunner and I drove over to Chama, NM and split a 12" Subway sandwich and read the news... here's a picture, from Hwy 17, entering NM, from CO.

I know this is the 40-45 forum, but I have a brake-associated issue that I don't quite understand, with my Tundra... I created a Tundra thread here Brakes Cause Steering Wheel Vibrations - 2002 Tundra

If anyone can suggest a cause/starting point, I appreciate it!!

Sounds like the rotors are warped. If you apply brakes and the steering wheel vibrates side to side that is the likely cause. Just went through that with my wife's Honda Pilot. Good Luck.

It was nice to see that Colorado had a decent snowpack and some good rains helping keep the place green!

Yep - it was gorgeous, green, with tons of flowers - more color than I've seen in a while.

... and more flies and mosquitoes than I've encountered in years... beauty (snow pack, rain, green and flowers) and the beast (insects)... they go hand-in-hand.

When you lived in Colorado, did you ever fish the Valle Vidal, in Northern New Mexico?

"Season: July – November
The Rio Costilla, the main fishery in the Valle Vidal, is a medium size tailwater springing from the bottom of Costilla Reservoir in Vermejo Park. The Rio Costilla is loaded with Rio Grande Cutthroats averaging 8 to 12 inches, and some much larger.

It runs through beautiful, wide-open high mountain meadows, making it a superb stream for beginners.

There are several ponds and lakes nearby as well. Some lakes have an abundance of fresh water shrimp which the large Cutthroats gorge on. These are the places for float tube fly fishing at its best!"

It is a superb stream for beginners, but those Rio Grande Cutthroats are QUICK... you can fish much of it from the bank, but be ready to pull the trigger!!

The only problem is you have to be very cognizant of the flows... this river is effected more by agricultural demand than any other I've fished... it can be perfect when you arrive and barely flowing a couple of hours later... but, what a gorgeous place!!

Those photos make me want to move. Nothing like a good river in a a valley, and of course dogs.

I have the dogs covered and we visit beautiful places every chance we have!!

Nope, I had too much water in between there to fish before I made it that far! I had the South Platte, the Arkansas, and hundreds of miles of small water to cover! I do know of a nice lake that we could talk about, MONSTER trout, some of them may have never seem a line cast over them. In the southern Colorado area. Access is another story though, keep in mind, I am the Infantry.

Hope you're still coming to Vegas in October!!

Hi Danny
Vegas is still on our plans.
Just the dates are the Unknown. As I'm getting more spare time I'm from finding more an more trips I can go on.
So what I need to do is settle on a date and book it in.
I know you have told me before but what is the ideal time to visit weather wise were we won't cook?
Cheers Peter
