My father in law has some old clocks from 1800's

The ones I have are newer ... And being worked on lol got several from my god father when he passed away

These are two I have at work... That almost work :meh:

Pendulum swings

Great pics BTW ... As usual... Enjoying your thread !

As Mike (@78fj40mg ) reported a while back, the Harbor Freight ATV Hitch Carrier has a small design issue. In Mike's case, the 45* angle, to the stinger, had no gusset and the weld was weak. IIRC Mike decided to add a gusset to each side.

I bought the same carrier, last May, and found that it came with gussets, installed with two grade 8 bolts. I thought mine wouldn't show the same issue as Mike's.

It turns out that, even though it's rated at 350 lbs and I've only loaded it with 120-130 lbs, there is enough clearance to the two bolts holes, that driving over rough trails causes the back of the basket to sag about 4". This picture shows what I mean...

While it was perfectly safe, it irritated daBoise to no end!!

So, I drug out my lowly HF Flux Welder and welded the gussets in place... I have no experience in this... A fact attested to by the runny, snotty look of my buggers... This, after a session with my grinder... But, it won't sag again... And daBoise are ecstatic!,

Thanks Peter!

Oh, this thread is about much more than clocks... We have, in the last week alone, discussed emus, both suburban and rural, moas, moa EMUs, sheep, both bighorn and not, both emaciated and not, Tom's goegeous view and Tom peeing in his garden (not the same as the gorgeous view).

Everyday.a new adventure!!

Hope China proves very profitable for you this trip... Safe travels Old Mate!!

Cheers!!

Hi Danny Hi Johnny C
Hi All
What a thread.
From clocks to Lost Marbles , to cruising the desert, Chinese stomach bugs AND faulty power steering pumps.
This thread has it all.
Chinese stomach bugs.
For me congealed pigs blood has the fastest input and out put through time being under 10 minutes for the total experience.
But I do thank Johnny C for his advice.
Staying healthy while traveling in China is most important.
Cheers

I'm not sure why anyone would ingest congealed pigs blood... But then, I wouldn't set up a whole railway system for big birds or go bicycle riding with a sheep either... I know... I'm odd...

Today's day trip was back to the DNWR... this time, turning left (north) on Alamo Road... but, only about 9 miles before turning right (east) on Cow Camp Road. We drove this very rough 'road' about 10-12 miles round trip and visited the old "cow camp"...

Today was absolutely gorgeous! Chilly, but sunny with a slight breeze... so, today's drive was only about 70 miles total, because it was such a gorgeous day that we stopped several times and hiked up promising canyons.

Warning... today's photos are very similar to others that I have previously posted... I tried to get the mountains to smile, but...

Here are a few pictures

The "cow camp"

We hiked quite a ways back this canyon... until it became too steep to safely traverse

Chester took off again...

IMG_0684.webp

I yelled and he ignored... so, I started 44 and rev'ed it a few times and he started back. Then, I made him 'chase' us for about 2 miles, then enticed him near enough to catch by giving Gunner water.

Then I tied him to Gunner and gave Gunner specific instructions to not let Chester have his way. It looks like Gunner was handling him here

But, Chester eventually wore Gunner out

I took this picture while Gunner was driving 44 up Cow Camp Road

looks like a good day had by one and all... well, maybe not so much for Gunner; but a tired dog is always a good dog.

Chester's actually the really tired dog tonight! Gunner had a great time until we got back to the highway and encountered a Dodge Ram dually with the whole front in engulfed in flames and the front tires billowing black smoke.

The owner and his passenger were both standing off to the side videoing the destruction of their truck.

I asked if anyone had tried to extinguish the fire early on and was told that no one had a fire extinguisher!! I said, "I've got two" and ammo started exploding in the cab and I said "but, I'm not going near that fire with them and it's too late to waste them anyway".

About 20 rounds exploded and then some white plastic thing exploded in the back of the truck and went about 50' into the air. This was followed, in a couple of minutes by the gas tank. After that the truck was fully engulfed, as was the new pavement leading the the DNWR visitor center...

Then I realized that Gunner was panicked by the explosions, so I left and drove a couple hundred yards down the highway and pulled over and aired back up, as the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue came flying by... Way too late, but not their fault.

I can't believe all those people were out there and not an extinguisher among them...

I will wager 9 out of 10 vehicles do not carry extinguishers. I always do in my and my wife's vehicle, on the dual sport motorcycle and in the aircraft. It is just insurance and have them checked annually. Ours are all Halon.

Halon are the best!

Danny,
What a exciting trip your having there. I must agree. I never go anywhere with out fire extinguishers. I have them in my home, and cars. Simple Items like that can save peoples lives not to mention cars and stuff you can replace.

It just seems intuitive to carry at least one... Especially when you are going into remote, unforgiving areas... It took at least an hour for LVFD to reach the scene.

what always slays me is that people leave their vehicles either running or the ignition on after they realize there is fire...

I don't know whether they shut the engine or ignition off, but it started under the hood and the hood remained closed... No attempt to knock it down early.

I'm not trying to be judgmental, I wasn't there when it started... I'm just shocked that people expect others will take care of them... Or, maybe they simply don't think...

We had a great trip! Not the prettiest area around. Alamo Road is not my favorite... I prefer Mormon Well Road... Alamo "parallels" US95 for a dozen or so miles (3-4 miles east of US95)... So, there is no real change in scenery, unless you turn up one of the offshoot "roads".
