actually I'd love to see a photo shoot done of it, really deserves someone taking 50 shots of it.. plllllease

Been driving the car weekly at every chance I get, trying to put miles on it, fix knick knacks, and replace failing parts (power steering line). Wife had our 3rd baby 5 months ago, so I have been helping out with chauffeur duties and the FJ does a fantastic job with finding a place to park amongst all the GL450's

Its going Deer and Elk hunting this year, so I will try and post some more action shots.

Great Build mate!! Driving inspiration to start my build.

Have you done a cost analysis of the whole project? I'm curious to know the total cost of the parts minus the tools and external labor.

Looks great! Thinking of doing a Troopy this way.

No, I have not done a cost analysis -- never will.

I work with numbers for a living, so this is one time the numbers don't matter, all about what was cool :-)

Nice FJ. I have a few questions.

Could you describe the drivability of the 5 spd transmission? Esp is you have ever driven a 4 spd

How does the A/C work? Who supplied it?

Are you running OME Suspension? And how would you describe the ride? I have org FJ that rides like crap and I have heard the improvement w OME is nice.

Where did you get your hardtop?

Donor truck. Only thing stock on the car is the doors and hard top.

I have read and discussed with multiple people smarter than me, that the 5 speed is an upgrade no matter the platform. For me and the diesel, it was a foregoing conclusion.

AC is from Vintage Air. I ordered from one of our mud vendors who wrote a DIY install. My way of paying it forward. It is adequate.

Vintage Air Install

Yes, OME shocks and springs. Great improvement over stock. Will buy again.

You still giving it to the kid when he's 16 or was that when he's 60 ?

All three kids will learn to drive a stick in this rig, but I will probably make them learn in a Subaru with air bags. I figure they should get comfortable driving in traffic before they get handed the keys to something categorically unsafe for modern speeds. But yes, I am hoping that my two sons can pull some talent with this rig when they get their license :-)

Have you driving a std 3 or 4 spd. What I wanted to know was does the 5spd shift any "less" notchy compared to the latter. Yes I am sure it is better at cruising speeds that's a given. What I want to know is does it shift and better? I realize these are not sports cars but my std 4 spd shifts like the truck it is. Very clunky, very unmodern. If there is no improvement to the shifting feel there is no real incentive for me since my FJ is later, it does ok at highway cruising. It's around town and trafic light to trafic light smoothness that I would want improved. Thanks Mark.

I have driven both 4 & 5 speeds. No real difference.

I have also driven a 5-speed that was much softer to engage then my current transmission. I just figured that was because mine is a brand new tranny whereas the other truck had a rebuild.

I have the stock 4 speed in my FJ55, and have driven my friends 5 speed swapped FJ62 (was a new H55 when it was installed a few years ago)

I would say that most people swap to a 5 speed for the gearing (lower first gear and the OD) but, the H55 is noticeably less 'notchy' , has a slightly shorter throw, and has the feel of a more modern trans, which most people aren't TOO concerned with, as they are driving a truck/off road vehicle.

I like the idea of a 5th gear for the highway and if it shifted nicer that is a plus. Q: admittedly not understanding how these things work, how is first gear lower than the current first gear? It already seems like it is so low you have to almost immediately shift into second after pulling out from a stop light.
