I did a search and its been awhile since this has been statused and we have a LOT more members now.

My muffler has a whistle and sounds like some crap inside. Talked to two muffler shops and they both talked about using a Magnflow. The research shows that they are loud, BUT with two cats and a rear muffler, is it really that loud?

I PM'd turbocruiser to see if he still liked his.

I read the SOR archives that C Dan mentioned way back when he was in his mid 40's.

So, now that our membership has grown considerably since these questions were last asked.

1) What kind of Muffler did you use (Center, rear?) Please specify if you did a wholesale swapout with the Cats and rear.
2) Is it noticibly louder?
3) Do you notice any more pep or other improvements?
4) How expensive was it?
5) What lessons learned would you share about your experiance?

And did Gary (Waggoner5) ever changeout the Magnaflow he wasn't happy with?

Thanks

Will it have to cost over $100 for you not to charge shipping? :D

Oh,

It'll be over a hun-ski fer sure........

Some of them snap-rings get purty spendy.....especially if you are at the top of the trail, about sun-down (with no beers in the cooler, sanctioned run you know)......:D

i have a magnaflow super turbo on my 40, and i cannot heat the exuaust sound over the sound ov the moter. that is with no cats ect. i dought that you will hear anything

yes i am planning on replacing the 80's muffler with a magnaflow.

is the factory muffler a low grade stainless like the rest of the exhuast? if so might be worth dealing with the whistle in exhange for long life. most (all?) aftermarket mufflers are plated steel and would not last as long,

The OEM can is a magnetic stainless.

If you want a pretty stainless, get a Borla. I like mine. The tail pipe sucks but the can is nice.

The Borla can is smaller in diameter and tucks up better than the stock muffler.

JDM SUXON Hi-Polish Dual cat back exhaust system. (JASMA)
Very deep tone/sound
The exhaust actually made for 80'sTurbo equipped with (2 and 7/8mm piping), so i wont gain no improvement :flipoff2: wait till i got the Turbo heh? (Will keep up to date) :flipoff2:
$1600.00
Anything cost more $1000.00 you gotta pay U.S customs fees :frown:

Safari 3" stainless exhaust built to run in conjunction with the safari turbo. Nice tone love it. Especially the way it runs over the frame so that nothing is hanging. Cat is gutted, as in all show no go. Can't stand restriction.

Borla - cat back. When my factory exhaust was ready for replacement I put on the Borla. I love it. I am always suspect of marketing and performance improvement claims, but I could feel the difference (improvement) wit the Borla

I was thinking about replacing the stock muffler for true dual racing flowmaster exhaust. :D I don't know how great it would sound on an i-6 but on my buddy's v8 chevy it sounds awsome. Actually I was just thinking a 40 series flowmaster would have a nice rumble.

And you don't like the whistle?

woo woo

I have a Toyota muffler on my 80, But when I had a Nissan Frontier I put a Magnaflow muffler on it. I liked it alot. It was by no means as loud as a Flowmaster and It gave the 3.3 liter V6 a nice throaty sound. There was a noticable increase in power and gas mileage after I installed it. I am planning on replacing the one on my 80 someday, but it's currently not real high on the priority list yet.

Well I went and bought a Magnaflow. My muffler was broken and needed replacement. It does make it sound DEEPER in tome, like a V8 but a little louder. Not like a muscle car though. Kind of throaty like Alvin described. It did seem a little peppier.

Romer,
Did you have your piping redone at all or just the muffler? Just curious cause I might have to replace mine soon and was wondering what was done for yours.

Thanks

Romer,

Have you had a chance to drive on the hwy and is there a "droan" sound around 2,000 rpm or so? That's one thing I couldn't stand to listen to from my Flowmaster Delta series muffler on other vehicles. Also, I assume the whistle is gone? Or perhaps you simply can't hear it?

Thanks.

I had a Magnaflow on my 4Runner and really liked it. Great sound, not too loud inside but a nice sound outside, I used to roll down the windows just to listen to it. ;p

It certainly is louder. If you want to roll up the windows and not hear anything like with the stock muffler, this isn't it. I am told Flow Master are louder. After driving it for a couple of days I am getting to like it.
