Well i wanted to update my post with some good news, along with some bad news,

The bad news first, below you'll find 3 photos showing what the current aftermarket bolt in BRexhaust and Ansa mufflers for our trucks look like, Just as an FYI, both the BRexhaust, and the Ansa mufflers use the exact same order part number 228-239, and also have an exact same part number stamped into the muffler body P/N172423,

Size wise you can see the aftermarket muffler body is way shorter in length next to my factory muffler, to the tune of 7 5/8 inch's shorter (16 inch's OAL for the BRexhaust, to 23 5/8 inch's OAL for the factory muffler) along with the aftermarket muffler only being 7 1/4 inch's in diameter against the factory muffler being 8 5/8 inch's in diameter,

Spec's on line list the OAL for the BRexhaust muffler at 22 1/2 inch's long, and 7 1/4 inch's in diameter, I called Magnaflow who makes this muffler and spoke to a tech rep, he told me that the 22 1/2 inch OAL is incorrect, and all current mufflers per their blueprint are 16 inch's in OAL, and 7 1/4 inch's in diameter

So I'm thinking due to these size differences, both bolt in aftermarket mufflers are going to be MUCH LOUDER then the factory muffler, plus if you live in the rust belt i don't think they will last very long,

Now for some good news, after i removed the factory muffler from my truck i found that the crack (see the last 2 photos) going all the way around my muffler, is what looks like a separate sheet metal heat shield installed around the muffler body by the factory, not the inner body of the muffler, so my old muffler is still good!

Mine is split right at the ring from taking endless beatings, but still does not leak as it's just the outer shell.
Built to last !! thank you Mr T

Has anyone tried Yoshiparts the link I posted above ? The seen to have the part 30% off right now.

@Rifleman that’s good to hear you are still able to use the OG muffler. There definitely isn’t anything like the OEM build. Regarding aftermarket mufflers for the 93-94s, when I replaced my full exhaust system I used all OEM except for the muffler and tailpipe. I’ll try to find the number but the aftermarket muffler matched in size almost exactly. It is much lighter and I don’t doubt I’ll be replacing it quicker than OEM but so far it’s been very good, no drone.

The funny thing is, all the spec's at online retailers say that the BRexhaust muffler is 22 1/2 inch's in OAL just like what your photo shows,

The muffler i ordered was from Summit Racing (order date of 12-20-2024) and got drop shipped directly from the Magaflow factory, and per Magaflows tech rep i spoke with, he said moving forward all their current production replacement mufflers for our trucks will now be 16 inch's in OAL,

All i can figure is this, by making the muffler body shorter it's a way for them to cut labor and steel cost on what must be a VERY limited market item for them,

So moving forward I'm sure some of the older/longer Brexhaust mufflers may still be sitting on the shelf at online vendors warehouses, but any new replacements ordered by them from Magaflow will now be the new shorter version,

Damn that’s a bummer. I bought mine in 7/22 from Rock Auto. BREX #228239. Goes to show don’t hesitate to buy parts when theyre around I guess. I’m off to go find some O2 sensors now haha!
