I would love to hear a history on that truck. It certainly has all the cool factors that set it apart from a regular old US spec 60.

The short drive tonight proved that the oem sending unit is faulty as the mechanical gauge is at a steady 60 psi. Tomorrow, he'll take the 60 for a hwy run just to make sure that the oil press is rock solid. If he feels comfortable, he'll head home if the road condition allows it.

What's the procedure for checking the oem press sending unit? Is there a table of psi vs resistance somewhere? I'll see if my FSM shows anything for this.

It might be worth while posting up in the diesel section to see if any of the diesel guru's might be able to help.

-o-

PS: kickdown cable next Ash!

:)

Very cool truck!

Any chance that the oem sending unit is the same one as on a 2F? Otherwise, prepare for another parts hunt. Come to think of it, that may just be a way of life for one of these - at least one that lives in the US!

But indeed a very cool truck!

I'm willing to bet that it is the same as many Toyotas.

Ali, that thing looks real good in your garage. You sure you can't work a deal?

If that's the case and one cannot be found easily, I have one of unknown condition screwed to the engine in my parts truck that I could loan/sell/whatever (I'm sure it will be decades before I need it).

one from a 2F "should" work. The diesels however have an oil pressure sender that runs the gauge, and sends a signal to the EDIC. Talking with Shaun last night it sounds like this may be one that drives both (two wires). It could probably be made to work though with the signal to the EDIC faked.

Not sure if my HJ has the same part or if it uses two senders to do the same.

Basically, if there's not oil pressure, the EDIC will command the fuel control to OFF, if you need to jerry rig it. :)

Vultures! :bang: Give Shaun a chance to get it back.

Glad to hear you guys got to get it to this point back on his way home.

It's so great how HDC/MUD/TLCA people go out of thier way to help out someone stranded or in need. Wait, I'm getting verklempt. sniff!

The HJ60 sender AND dash gauge are different part numbers. Unfortunately both are discontinued.

well, he's off!

Shaun left the house this morning. I talked to him at Tramway/I-40 and his oil press is doing great at 60psi. He'll try to stop by AmToy on his way out.

Some pics of the oil press setup for your amusement :D

Hurraaayyy!!!

Glad to hear he's on his way!

Ali & Shawn - a big thanks to both of you for all your time and effort. I bet Utah Shaun will have some amazing stories to tell about those NM Land Cruiser guys when he gets home.

By the way, I like the set-up for the oil pressure reading. And we missed the cow-catcher front-end in last night's pics. That is one cool truck. The raised roof is also different from US-spec trucks. That difference shows better in the pics from last night.

It also has a third row seat which is why it's got the high-roof.

Add to the list of other cool things not mentioned yet:

Moonroof
Aussie style rearview mirrors
Swing out vents on the front door windows

The only thing it's missing is a bench front seat

What's the deal with the front hubs? I only see center caps and no hub selector. Is it full-time 4WD or does it have an ADD system like newer US IFS Toyota trucks and 4-Runners?

Aftermarket wheels. The lockouts are under the caps.

I'm home, and so very glad to be here. The factory pressure sender is definitely the culprit. The pressure held strong at around 60 psi, all the way home . The weather going home wasn't great, but I kept motoring, and made it home around 1:30 AM.

I can't thank all of you enough, especially Shawn and Ali. You gave me, a complete stranger, the way out of a very desperate situation. Thanks to you I am at home, enjoying Christmas eve with my wife and son, with the 60 sitting safely in the driveway. This is one Christmas story we will never forget.

Again, thank you!

With warmest regards,

Shaun, Sara, and Jonah
